Revo Remap for Octavia VRS CR TDI

Featured Replies

Hi all

Could someone please clear up a slight issue for me.

I have had my Octavia VRS for 6months now and its no where near as spirited as by Fabia VRS was.

I have thought about having it remapped but reading here it appears MY2010 cars have a protected ECU !

I went to my local Seat dealer as our family car is a Seat, they are also Revo garage, and the service manager said that the latest software/cables allowed then to remap my CR TDI from 170 to 208bhp without any DPF issues or affecting any seals which would clearly show a warranty issue. Apparantly they have done this to the Seat Leon FR CR TDIs with great success....

Is this right as I dont mind telling a fib to Skoda if there is a problem but dont really want to have obvious signs that the cars been played about with.

Thanks in advance.

Interesting - but according to Ben at Shark it can't be done and if it could Skoda would be able to tell as the checksum on the ECU would have changed even if the standard map had been put back on.

Ben from Shark Performane hopefully will read this offer his kind opinion.

Thanks for the fast reply.

Will take this back to the Seat garage as am there in the morning to test drive a leon as a downsize from an altea xl.

check this out might help??

REVO have some sort of new kit out now that allows them to get by the anti tune. I say go for it

Here are the facts guys:

To remap a 2010+ car with a protected ECU, the ECU HAS to be removed from the car and HAS to be opened up

Once the ECU has been remapped, it changes a checksum which can be read in VCDS/VAS which will show that your ECU has been modified. This is still true even if the ECU is returned to standard afterwards or "switched" back to standard

Either way, with the MEDC17 ECU family, there's no hiding it.

Hope that clears things up

As Ben will probably back me up here, there is a lot of bull going around in the tuning market and I nearly got caught out with it. I visited my local Revo dealer in the north east and they told me that A) my car had tuning protection on the ECU and B) that we are the only people that can get round this without removing the ECU.

I thought about it long and hard and after a few chats on the phone with Ben i decided to drive down to Shark to let him look at my car. Ben told me in no uncertain circumstances that if the car had tuning protection the ECU had to be removed and made that clear before i travelled down. Anyway I got there and Ben plugged my car in the his laptop and I went to grab some food. I came back and he said "it's done, your car doesn't have tuning protection".

My opinion of this was either i was lied to by my Revo dealer or they were incompetent - either way I didnt want them working on my car. Bottom line is you have a nice car, if you want it done properly go somewhere that will look after both you and your car.

Had my Shark map on for about 11,000 miles now and couldn't be happier!

And Ben I still want my bluetooth doing but its finding the time to get there! :giggle:

Late to the party as ever but just thought I would add some comments about my Octavia Vrs tdi which I had re-mapped about 10,000 miles ago by the Revo agent in Tewkesbury. Initial feelings driving away from the garage were that it was no difference but having driven my car across Europe and pretty much every road type and driving style is that it is noticeably different. The Dsg is never going to be great round town and to be honest I'm not convinced it's for me, but once you are on the move the torque is outstanding and it just pulls (using the flappies) up to the red and then you hit the next gear, staying in the power band and it is as fast as my old Golf R32. Fuel consumption is still high 40's. Gotta be honest, I bought this car because it was a lot of bang for your bucks and by having this re-mapped by those nice Revo chaps in Tewkesbury this has been transformed into the ultimate Q car and it is very fast now and I have to admit I am somewhat smitten with it's honesty and the way it just gets about covering big miles without any drama or fuss. Yes I invalidated my warrantly, but to be honest, what's a warranty worth nowadays? I change the oil often, just changed the Dsg oil at 40,000 for a crazy £220 but it needed it so it gets it and the Skoda dealer who did it naturally took it for a drive and announced "hell that's a quick car" and it is. So for £400 this was a very sensible, well researched addition to a very good Skoda. Is it wearing the wrong badge? of course. but does it matter when you are having fun? not a a jot. By a good, well built car and make it better.

Oh and by the way. The ECU had to come out and on to the bench to do this but who cares? These guys know what they are doing so trust them...

How long did it take to do? Was there a specific name for the map?

Does this affect just the CR version or the TSi's also?

Mine's a Dec 2009 TSi and was hoping to get it mapped in the next few months.

Took a day to do and they loaned me a car. Power up from 170 to 212 Bhp and torque up from 321 to 435 Nm.

VHub in Tewkesbury were the agents that did it and they were excellent and very knowledgeable.

Really recommend as this has transformed the car. Still not sure about Dsg gearbox though, but maybe it's just me and I think I quite like changing gear...

Tsi can be mapped through obd port
