Slipping Clutch

Featured Replies

Nope, bad = booting it around or just after maximum torque = around 2.5K rpm. At that point the injectors and turbo have the headroom to react almost instantly and provide the intoxicating thump in the back we all love. Oh, and if you've a remap, can cause the clutch to slip.

Mine did it in 5th/6th when slowcoaches moved aside in the outside lane of the M-way. Booting it felt good, until the clutch started complaining. So now I'm more progressive... Still on the same clutch...

thanks, so progression is the key :)

If the clutch is slipping would u hear it ? When I accelerate in 5th and 6th briefly I can hear a noise like a whistle.

my clutch might be slipping but It might not be :-/

I'm guessing the whistle is your turbo.

Slipping clutch is revs rise, but speed of car doesn't -

you'll know if its slipping believe me

revs rise but speed doesn't but then it falls back and goes....

won't be long until a slipping clutch goes BOOOOM!

did on mine anyways

I don't know if my clutch is slipping or it's turbo lag, at 1k I put my foot down or just over nothing until around 1.8k rpm - this is my 1st turbo car had it two weeks now hope it's turbo lag coz once it's going it pulls rite up to the red line

Its turbo lag at 1k. Unless you want to be buying a new flywheel don't boot it until 2,200rpm and about 2,500rpm remapped. As said above, feed the throttle until the turbo is spooled up then hit the floor.

Even at 1.8k its putting too much stress on the flywheel. Its really how sharp the torque spike is on the map and how much torque that will kill the clutch. If its a smooth delivery and under 300 ft/lbs you shouldn't have any problems. I've had my remap from p-torque on for 18,000 miles and not had a slip or a judder, and my clutch and flywheel has already done about 80,000 miles.

You don't hear clutch slip, you feel it.

I've had a new clutch at 59k.

Symptoms where :-

When booting at 2k - Revs would jump up to 3k, then drop backup and then continue to pull. However, during the lower gears there was no slip. From 3rd-4th upwards. No other issues at all.

Best test is on a motorway, Stick it in 4th gear at 2k, then boot it. Watch the rev counter, if it jumps up then drops down your clutch is slipping.
