Windows opening help!

Featured Replies

Twice now my SM has opened all its windows while sat on the drive.

The key fob has been in my pocket, has a button been pressed that causes all the windows to open? Can't find anything in the manual.

Thanks Chaps.

Hi,

In some models (Octavia II FL) if you keep presing the unlock button on the remote will lower all windows, and if you keep pressing the lock button the opposite happens. Don't have a Yeti so can't be 100% it is the case.

Hello, i'v had this before with my Octy VRS, if you hold down the unlock button the windows open and if you hold down the lock button they close.

I twice when the car was new was puzzled by this as the key must have pushed against something in my pocket, which opened the windows and then the doors lock themselve as the doors were unopened.

This was a real head scratcher till i found the key fob can controlled the windows. Since I worked out what it is, I have not done it again. Which is good as it rained both nights I did it :'(

Yes that is usually the case of the keys being pressed in your pocket. Why don't you try it by just holding the open button down whilst your fob is in your pocket. After a second or 2 the windows will open and will stop as soon as you release the button.

Check page 49 of your drivers manual - Window convenience operation...............Hope this helps - Happy motoring........................................THE GREAT YETI

Just found that one out for myself too. Weeding the front garden with the keys in my pocket. Had to be raining at the same time didn't it.

Incidentally, I have rain sensors. Isn't there a feature to close the windows if it rains?

You can switch this off using the Maxidot option.

Thanks for the replies Chaps, I'm starting to get paranoid about this now.

Can't find how to turn it off in the manual but am going to play with the dash computer thingy this morning. (Maxidot?)

Yes, with rainsensing wipers, the windows will automatically close if it rains - with the ignition key removed!. Not sure if it still works if you disable things using maxidot though. It's all in the manual - somewhere!

It's easy to check. Leave the windows open, remove the key, shut the door & after a couple of minutes, sprinkle some water on the windscreen in front of the sensor (just in front of the mirror). Windows should close as if by magic!

Well it wasn't when I started!

I don't have Maxidot.

Tried what you suggested but it didn't work. Wrong sort of water?

I had this problem and it was a genuine fault. First my offside rear window would open itself when the car was locked and unattended, so after a few nights of wet rear seat (not to mention insecurity) I took it to my dealer, Chapman's of Pickering. They put it on their diagnostic gadget and confirmed a fault. Had to have new window electrics ordered and go back (30 mile round trip) a few days later for the repair.

Low and behold a few weeks later the left rear window started to do the same thing. Off to Pickering again, problem confirmed, part ordered (this time they managed to instruct the errant SM to keep the window closed), back again a few days later and new control fitted. Problem solved.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

I'm posting on behalf of someone else, they've had their Yeti around six months, shortly after receiving it they discovered the windows had lowered themselves all the way round while they were away, it had rained and the interior was soaked. The dealer said there must have been something picked up on the internal sensor and it automatically dropped the windows thinking something was trapped. The problem occurred again through the night, they went out to discover the windows had all fully lowered during the night and the interior was again soaked. The dealer has yet to look at the car again but they said something about the button being stuck or pressed on the keyfob. Anyone any suggestions as to whether this is normal or is perhaps an electrical fault that needs looked at.

Cheers!
