Rattling Cat' !

Featured Replies

Couple of days ago as I started the car up in the garage there was an almighty rattling sound, (made worse by the confined space)

coming from under the car. I reversed it out, parked and had a listen with the door open, yup I thought. coming from the cat areaemoticon-0101-sadsmile.gif.

As the revs dropped to tickover (about 850rpm with aircon on), the rattling stopped. Maybe a loose heatshield I thought.

As today was warmer, put the car up on ramps in the garage, checked said shield, not loose bolts, everything tight and secure.

I then went to the silencer box and checked the centre support, could see it was still attached to the exhaust pipe, everything

secured. Hit the heat shield in frustration (thinking cats breaking up), heard rattle again coming from rear of shield, felt around

and found a stone about 5 mm in dia that had been bouncing around. Phew!!!!! what a reliefemoticon-0100-smile.gif .

I had a similar thing happen, when i bought the car i could hear a rattling sound and thought oh crap this is going to be expensive. looked underneath and i could see the car had obviously been used to plow a field :giggle: the previous owner must have used it for towing a carravan and upon entering the site it had basically grounded and there was big clumps of mud and grass stuck to the heatshield underneath
