So the rubber bands that are the stock Dunlops are nearly worn down after 6500 miles on my FL VRS - couple of mm left :wonder:

Starting to look around at better options and come up with those listed in the poll - would really appreciate a vote for the one that people have had good experiences with to help me decide. Main thing is to have some that last a few more miles!

Cheers all

I wish I knew (I picked other).

Tyres are like clothes and really depend on the wearer, even a car like the TSI VRS.

Our left front OE, Dunlop Sport Maxx GT, was just down to the wear blocks at 13K, funnily the drivers side looks like it still has a couple of thou in it.

Bought a Neptune alloy rim and put a "normal" Dunlop Sport Maxx, which is only traction rating A and not AA and I would say it is not as good as I hoped.

I will follow the tread with interest and make the choice to change all 4 tyres to a brand/model in the next few weeks.

Most the tests seem to suggest Contis or Michelins but they are quite expensive.

The Octavia is of course comprised in that it has a large boot which over hangs beyond the rear axle, unlike A3, Cupra and Golf, but I would not trade that for those Euro cars. Just got to remember to keep the VRS's boot empty and use the wiesel estate for the lugging and the TSI VRS for the sports driving.

I voted 'other'

My choice, Goodyear F1 Assymetric, was used on my previous car, Focus ST(270hp)

Got about 20,000 miles out of each of the 2 sets.

Although the tyres on the VRS, Dunlop Sport Maxx GT offer very good grip they have not worn well.

I estimate they will be replaced at about 15000 miles even after changing front to back

How odd... emoticon-0112-wondering.gif I have 15000Km / 9300 miles on mine and they are no where near having to be replaced. They are the stock Dunlops SP SPORT 01 that came with the car.

+1, I got about 18k out of the front's and 30k+ out of the rears on the same tyres.

Not sure if the pun was intentional but it made me smile :D .

I'm guessing the OP enjoys the full capabilities of his VRS to have worn his OE Dunlops that quickly :p

Goodyear F1 Assymetric.

voted conti sportcontact 3 based on:

- evo tyre test win (however only on a light rwd car)

- i've just ordered a set, being fitted on weds.

The poll is a little flawed imo as its not possible to reastically choose the "best" out of those unless you'd tried them all back to back on the same car in the same conditions.

Also, don't get me started on what defines "best"..! For some its dry grip, for some its wet grip, for some its wear etc etc!

I have the Dunlop Sport Maxx GT - whether that makes much difference or not, I don't know!

I wouldn't be quite so miffed with the tyres if I did hoon it everywhere, but I don't :( I'd read bad things about the Sport Maxx GTs on here, but nonetheless surprised.

Sorry, should have made it clearer - I'm not worried about what is "best", rather wanted to gauge what tyres people have had positive experiences with/would recommend. Just to crudely judge popularity.

Cheers all!

Mine came with the Contacts fitted and up to now have had no probs at all. Still getting used to the torque pulling away fast from junctions tho LOL
