Any downsides to having the car serviced in Germany?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I wondered if anyone 'in the know' could offer an opinion on this query?

My yeti will be due it's first service in the next few months (will be on around 9000 miles) and I wondered if there would be any downsides to having the work done at a German Skoda dealer whilst there? I will be there around the right time and the price is vastly cheaper than having the service done here. I was also really impressed with their ability's whilst there last week.

My main concern is with the dealer being German and the car being a uk car. For instance I've been led to believe that there is a firmware update available for my 12 speaker/digital amp controller. Similarly, if there was a later software update for the engine's ecu etc would this be done successfully at the German dealership? I'm pretty sure that when it's hooked up to a uk dealers computer it will list any updates that are due and do them but would the German system successfully identify it as being a uk car and do the 'english' versions of the update?

Any advice would be great fully received.

Edit - update for amp controller not Columbus firmware.

All the software etc. is exactly the same no matter where in the EU the car is serviced. The service will also be exactly the same since they all work from the same service schedule.

I am not aware of any new firmware updates for the columbus, I run the latest firmware on mine and its now nearly 12 months old. Even if the dealer does not have the firmware its possible to download from the interweb and do it yourself as I have done several times in the past.

Hi Mannyo, thanks for the prompt reply. I should have been clearer on the 'firmware' update I mentioned - jonA has lead me to believe there is an update for the 12 speaker/digital amp controller to correct a no audio issue under certain circumstances (mine suffered from it a few months back on a single occasion). Looking like a service 'over there' may be a good idea then.

Of course you can ask! €110 which at current rates is about £95. That's for the same parts as would be fitted here (oil, inc sump plug and filter) as well as a stamp in the book. As I say my only worry is that any software updates would be done.
