When will a FWD only Diesel DSG be introduced

Featured Replies

Or will i need to settle for a manual?

Or you could settle for a 4x4 version? Granted it is a fair new more pennies but the combination of DSG and the haldex system and the 2.0CR engine work really well!

Erm, James,

i be a bit tight like with the pennies, so not interested in the extra fuel penalty of the $*$ option.

(Now the greater towing capacity might otherwise appeal ........... but while running the Daimler Steyr Puch .........no need

I might even consider the Yeti Greenline varient when or if ever it is introduced to the UK market????

But since we bought the Octavia DSG for the Missis I am gaining useful experience of the DSG system.( & its foibles)

Brilliant once on the open (or even congested) road, but this kerfuffle with the key removal thinggy plus being a bit slower to react to pull away (unless one sits "in gear" while waiting)

But then the bloody brake lights lamp the poor sucker sitting behind, which I LOATH when I am the driver behind.

But hey i am getting used to it. But perhaps, just,on balance, slightly disappointed.

It must also be said that since I would intend to take 250,000 miles of of any car I would have mild reservations about the DSG system over this milage.

But it would be nice for the Missis to be able to drive either vehicle.

Sigh

PS

I know I should get 250,000 out of a clutch & gearbox , from experience.

Oh

Cheers

M

Is this another example of VAG bosses restricting Skoda sales? You can get a VW Golf Plus with a diesel DSG combo, but not a Skoda. Are they trying to bolster VW sales?? It ties in with reports in Autocar today that VAG want to drive Skoda back to being an entry-level model range competing with Kia and Hyundai not VW!

I wouldn't have thought VW control of Skoda generally went as far down as defining permitted engine/gearbox combinations. They'll be working strategicaly eg as you say, deciding where Skoda fits into the group portfolio. re this point i think VW may have a problem repositioning Skoda. Skoda's credibility has been built on providing quality at a reasonable price. This is pretty much what Kia and Hyundai have been doing too more recently so I don't think lowering quality is an option in the modern motor market. It may be that longer term VW may decide there is simply too much internal competition and divest itself of some subsidiaries.

I get the impression that Seat is more problematic than Skoda to VW. Could we see Seat being de-emphasised and maybe slowly disappearing as a separate brand, which would then leave Skoda more room to offer sportier models but still with a value proposition? This might allow more space for a Yeti vRS model.

I think you will find it is the exact opposite. Think about it. Why should there be an exact equal for every VW and Skoda in each line up? Why not make FWD TDI DSGs only as VWs and 4x4 TDI DSGs only as Skodas. Job done. You are not canabalising each other's markets.
