ARB corroded and needs new bushes

Front discs + pads need doing

Rear discs corroded

Rear axle bushes perished

Oil level sensor weeping

Sills slightly damaged from jacking

Looking at a good few hundred quid.. Map is gonna be on hold I reckon now lol.

Could be time to uprate the ARB though :smirk:

Hey could be worse mate ;)

sills are common and pose no problems 905 or octy's will have some sill damage

brakes well thats just a normal consumable

will req rear pads aswell change them all at the same time ( easy job do it yourself )

oil sensor just clean and monitor

arb bushes common not a big job either

rear axle beam bushes can be done fairly easy with uprated bushes

should not cost you too much if you do most the work yourself

I think most MK1 Octavias now have bent sills, heck even my 2 year old superb has bent sills, thats a common one and I wouldnt bother as they will only get bent again.

The ARB is sold metal and surface rust will not affect its performance.

I'm gonna try to do most of it myself.

Thanks for the advice agree with most of that lol

with the brake pads, on the last MOT the car got an advisory on rear pads, the rear pads are literally looking brand new so would seem a bit of a waste to replace what would be brand new pads.

Don't understand how the whole ARB is broke?! lol I understand that the bushes can go but being a solid bar of metal I don't really get it

Hi mate,

Is this a good price for pads and discs? Seems pretty good to me?

Also I'll be upgrading ARB and rear axle bushes to powerflex items.

ARB bushes are easy. I posted a write-up of how to do it a couple of weeks ago.

I've just bought Mintex brake & pads from Quality.Car.Parts on eBay Mintex Front, Mintex Rear

£144 inc postage, ordered in afternoon, with me by 0800 next day!

Ian, many thanks! Done ARB bushes on several cars before, I'm an auto elec by qualification however prefer to dabble in mechanical. Only thing is I don't have access to any tools apart from ones 16 miles away lol.

£144 for mintex front and rears is a great price, will be ordering them definitely worth the extra £20 odd quid for mintex
