Using portable Satnav in Yeti

Featured Replies

Just a quick one.

I read here that the power socket/ciggie lighter isn't on the dash. How, in practice, do you plug in a portable satnav...like Tom Tom or, in my case, Snooper? Maybe it reaches, or maybe you get an extension cord for it....hope one's available?

My octavias socket is near handbrake. Tom tom cable to spare, would nearly fit in the back! :giggle:

Tom Tom reaches fine. Leads look a mess though:)

There is a pinned thread about fitting direct into fuse box beside the drivers door.

My Garmin Zumo 550 reaches fine from the r/h corner of the screen down and across the top of the steering column and then down and back to the power socket.

To me it's a stupid position for the power socket to be behind the gear lever.

One day I'll have to fit another in front.

Hi Mike,

it's in the Tech Guide My link

Mike.

I have my Garmin Nuvi in the right bottom corner of the screen and the lead goes across the dash behind the binnacle then down across the central vents to the socket. No problem at all.

Depends on how you use it. I have my phone on a Brodit Proclip at the passenger side of the radio. I use the power socket for recharging and the cable, stretching between the phone and the socket, is well out of my way and my passenger's way. The location of the socket makes it easy to use with no stretching across.

If you use the Proclip system to locate your sat-nav closer to the socket, you would have less of a problem. Or, like me, use a map!

I have a Tom Tom xxl which nicely wedges into the little cubby hole just in front of the gear leaver. To my surprise it picks up satellites no problem, the trailing wire is not an issue and when I am not using it it hides away without a trace.

As a little added bonus it alerts me to speed cameras so I don't need a snooper.

I was thinking of using the A pillar Proclip mount as I have the Columbus in mine, which I would use as a backup and keep the iphone charged.

I have used them in the past on my BMW's and they were great, mounted like you on the air vents, but I have tended to hard wire them in by fitting an additional 12v socket behind the dash so as to get rid of the cables, so it gets rid of the cables.

I use PocketGPSWorld's Camera alert on the iphone. brilliant. Even works now in the background.
