Rear Driver Side Door Locked Mechanism Broken

Featured Replies

Hello all, there have been several posts concerning this but I cannot find one which describes the exact problem I have and none of them offer a resolution. Basically my rear driver side door has locked itself and will not open (using either the central locking remotely, the key, or manually from the inside. I believe this is a safety feature and that the locking mechanism has broken. The lock pin does not move either. I am pretty sure (from other posts) that I need a new locking mechanism (around 30 quid) but no one has offered a solution for getting the door open or removing the panel whilst it is locked. Does anyone have any suggestions or have I missed a key post somewhere? Many thanks in advance. Iain.

Any ideas? Any help or suggestions would be welcome at this stage before going to the dealership and being charged 200 quid. Many thanks,

Have you tried taking the door card off yourself? I've just had a quick look at mine and reckon it might come off if you remove the seat base and back, and the plastic trim up the rear edge. The problem would presumably be pulling it off without being easily able to lever it at the edge. The edge of the seat base would be the next hurdle but once all the clips are off it potentially would pull off upwards? What I wasn't sure of on mine when I opened it up (with the door open) it to sort out the leakage was how to release the top (I naively thought it would just push upwards but so doing didn't seem to be getting anywhere) but hopefully others could advise.

Here's a detailed view of the inside of a rear door card so you can see exactly where all the clips are

Hi, thanks for the response and sorry for my delayed response. I have been away over the Christmas period. I should get time this weekend to try this out. I will let you know the outcome. Thankyou very very much for your help. It is greatly appreciated.

Mine has done this also, but luck enough it opens from the inside - its definately the door lock seizing up on the inside. my lock has skorch marks on it from where the motor has burnt out (yes i managed to strip the door down - but it will be going to Skoda to get a new lock mech!)

Hello, I have managed to get the panel off, to reveal the silver plate inside. To replace the lock does this need to come off? If so, I assume I will have to re-seal it using a sealant? If it need not come off, then how do I now open the door, assuming that the locking mechanism is in deadlock? Many thanks. Iain.

Just for reference, for anyone looking to remove their panels this covers just about all of it, bar completely removing it (at the top). This and the picture above (to determine where the pins where) helped me a lot:

With regards completely removing it, do not prop it up as demonstrated in the video, keep it as flat to the door as possible (you will have to pull it out slightly to overcome the window winder) and lift/wiggle it upwards. I had to use a plastic card to run along the top between the door panel and the small strip of plastic between the panel and the window.

Back to my last post, it turns out I don't need to worry about re-sealing the silver (metal) cover now visible. I can move it about but the window winder is attached to the winding mechanism so I cannot remove it. Does anyone have reccommendations on the best way to remove this panel? And finally how to actually get the door open, reverse the deadlock, and replace the locking mechanism?

Is there a requirement to code the lock to the immobiliser or anything of this sort?

Many thanks for all the help in advance. This is saving a fortune. Might write this up into a full guide/blog post if/when I can find some time when finished. Iain.

I think I now have a good idea on removing the panel thanks to whoever made available the full workshop manual here:

http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=5dde693a7cf7f2b88066db0503cf4f2c438d78c2%207736e4a0.

For removal of the doors, panelling and locks the file called "elemente caroserie.pdf" is the one you want, around section (not page) 58.

The only thing left to do is to get the lock out of deadlock. Any ideas? Iain.

Hi there,

So the Door Carrier is out and I've got to that hmmm frustrating point where you realise your going to have to break off the lock.... I think.

Not gonna do the Dremmel thing or I will lose fingers.

Does anyone have any alternative methods... If I could just open the door I could remove everything cleanly.

Thanks for any ideas you have. Will bring out the Hammer in the morning if I have to?

Billy

I used tin snips and just basically ripped one end of the plastic casing to pieces until I could spin the gear to unlock door!
