Sniff I've decided it's got to go.

I got the VRS when I was doing 15k a year but car sharing. Now after moving 30miles closer to work I'm doing 18k a year. Mostly this is down to visiting relatives and friends with the new sprog and SWMBO's car being unsuitable for the baby.

SWMBO is getting a new car in the new year but this is probably going to be something small so any visits will probably get done in the big car so I can't see my mileage dropping any time soon. I'm pumping about £300-400 a month into the tank of the VRS. A timing belt belt service is due in six months and the black cloud of the Teves60 of componant of doom has taken the shine off the car for me recently.

But mainly its the fuel cost.

Having tasted the delights of VAG I can't see myself going back to the lesser brands. Plus if I'm losing my toy (and the VRS was compensation for not getting a motorbike) I'd like something passibly nice. I don't really have any cash to spare so I'd like to either sell the car privately or trade it in and do a straight swap.

All the cars above are available for about £8-10k. I looked at the 525d the stylehas grown on me but I'd only be able to get one with high miles. They seem to last well but some need the DPF replaced or removed after 110k and that's a big job.

The A4 is a nice car, maybe a bit mundane but I'd hope that a 05/55 plate with 60k on it would have a good number of years left in it.

I've seen a couple of 2.7tdi A6s but I'm not sure if I'd get much of an economy saving with that.

The passat is dare I say even more mundane but still a good car.

The V70, well it's practical isn't it.

Basically I'd like something 'nice' that I'll be able to run for 3yr hopefully without anything major going wrong.

Maybe a daft question, but why isn't a diesel vRS on your list?

Might be easier to do a swap through a Skoda dealer.

TBH I doubt I'd get a straight swap unless I was going to lunar mileages the diesel vrs holds money a lot better than the TFSI especially the estate. Plus I'd be back to the teves 60 issue always waiting on it to go.

But the main one would be that if I'm going to change car I'd like something different.

plenty of diesel vRS's with low mileage on the trader last time i checked for under 10k

BMW 730d (E65).

I'm biased as hell but you'd struggle to find a nicer place to be for £10k. The 3 litre diesel in this car is a real peach, and that's coming from a strictly petrol guy :giggle:

out of the list I'd go for the BMW

Having had a 525d I can say that they are a lovely car, but even with a manual you aren't going to get much more than late 30s out of a pre facelift. You'd need to go for a manual 520d to get something north of 40.

I see a diesel Superb doesn't feature either - I believe they're capable of intergalactic mileage and reasonably cheap ?

I just went from an Audi S4 to the Octavia VRS diesel estate. Drove a Volvo, A4, Passat and they all felt bland and boring compared to the S4, also they hadn't been very well looked after (all ex rep cars) and had no toys or gadgets on them as standard. Went for the Octavia VRS diesel just because you seemed to get so much more for your money in terms of gadgets and performance. Really pleased with the Skoda, although I understand you want a change.

Took a look at an 07 S60 D5 (185bhp) yesterday. It was £9995.

Didn't drive it. Just had a quick chat with the dealer. Got offered £9k for the VRS which I was quite surprised with. Expected them to offer about £7k tbh.

Don't think the S60 is for me. I've always liked them though. Boot looks a bit awkward for prams and the like. But still only had 55k and full leather.
