Condensation on inside of windscreen

Featured Replies

Anyway of preventing this? Seems on cold mornings theres condensation on the inside of my windscreen!

Cheers

Your back doors are leaking. Search the fabia section. loads about it. I've fixed one door. Need to fix the other.

However my 2004vRS often suffered from condensation yet the carpets always felt dry - never solved it...

Same here.

I remember reading that if the blower vent is pointing at the windscreen position it can cause this. I keep forgetting to set it to the footwells when I park up for the night.

Might be the cause though...

First of all carefully check your carpets - and note it seems more of an issue in the rear footwells than the fronts. Take out the mats, and press down hard on the carpet - is it wet? (This was irrelevant in my current car since there was literally standing water visible in the rear - less so in the front). Also look at the door surround seals - press down on the outer edge opening up the groove within - is this wet/damp? (The back on mine was wet (OS only checked since carpet only wet on that side), the front dry - hence I'm not sure yet whether the front door is leaking).

I tried that anti-misting stuff from Halfords - £5.99 not well spent :( !

i have the same problem, altho i dont suffer from condention too badly. my rear seals and fronts too when i oopen the door sometimes have water sitting on the seal? and when i open it sometimes wet inside altho my carpets are never wet. neither is the floor. i think the floor is the first thing to check seeing as the water is coming up from the floor not falling from the roof onto the mat :D lol so the mat is unlikeyl to be wet esecially as they have a water proof material on the underside of them.

Set the heater to the floor setting while not in car - overnight etc. Assuming the doors aren't leaking, it made a big difference to mine as it stopped all the moisture in the air getting blown onto the screen with the movement of the air outside.

hmmm...... i had my car serviced a couple of weeks ago, when i took it in i asked them to check my plenum chambers as my windows were misting up a bit, well i dunno what they did but since taking it in it's 10x worse! my front and rear screen are soaking wet with condensation in the mornings   Won't be helpful when the temp drops and decides to freeze on the inside......... I recall only ever having condensation on the inside once last winter, but it's happened about half a dozen times so far already........... I'm trying the vents down method tonight.

+1 to this.

Also found water on top of the rubber seal and the door cards were soaking at the bottom of the door so they are worth checking. Had both of these symptons recently on one of the rear doors especially after washing my car.

pull back the rubber seal near the door card,if you have water their the doors are leaking, its a very easy job and there's a video on youtube.

Don't rule out the pollen filter thing having sprung a leak from the drainy things getting blocked at each end of the windscreen.

This tends to give you a damp front passenger foot well though.

You might have a damp filter though? Rather than a leak.. if you don;t think your leaking from the doors this is what I'd check next. Just whip it out and have a look / feel.

After putting the heaters at the foot setting there was no condensation on this inside this morning just a lot of frost on the outside!

Ill see what its like again tomorrow morning, hopefully its just this!

In my experience the AC collects condensate a bit, keeping a little supply of water somewhere that does not fully drain. Then when you start up in the morning it all gets blown out at the screen.

I have found that if I leave the vents on 'feet only' after AC use and also only really use the AC on recirc (less fresh air and less moisture to condense) you get less chucked out when restarting. I also try to switch off the AC a few minutes before getting to the destination to clear it inside helps too.

Add this to the fact that the AC does not work when the ambient temp is under 4 celcius, it makes any misting extremely hard to clear.

Also might be worth checking if your rear windscreen washer is still working (the hose can pop off in a few places)..? Other than that, the usual suspects of leaking door cards, old pollen filter and filled plenum chamber have all been mentioned ...

Hi, I've had this problem too but fixed it. It was only apparent on the rear doors but there was a fair bit of condensation inside the car. Diagnosis: Water seeps through between the inside skin of the door and the metal door panel itself, eventually dripping onto the top of the rubber seal (that you can see when you open the door) and into the rear footwell. Although the carpets didn't feel damp in our Fabia, when I pushed some tissue onto then the dampness showed up clearly. There's a spongy seal that fits between the inside skin and the door panel but as the inside skin is riveted on you can't get it to be a closer fit.

Seems to be a very common problem with mk1 fabias. Simple solution if you're at all practical

Check out google

for a solution.

I did this for both doors on a Sat afternoon in about 1 hour. No more condensation ;) !! N.B. I used a black gutter sealant rather than silicone as silicone is prone to coming away in frosty condiitons. Also don't spread the sealant flat as in the video - much better to put a wet finger on to it to smooth it out and push it into the groove between the inside skin and the door panel. If you want any help or tips let me know.
