Fabia I VRS to Fabia II 1.9 TDi Sport?

Featured Replies

I'm currently assuming my stolen Fabia I VRS will not be found. One car I am considering is the Fabia II 1.9 TDi Sport. What are peoples opinions on it? Its only 105bhp which is putting me off slightly although I do think I would prefer the new look Fabia rather than buying another old look Fabia I.

Another car I am considering is the 207 1.6 HDi 110 GT, you do get a lot more spec for your money on these and I do like Pug's had them before and never had problems.

I have had a pug with the 110 hdi engine..couldn't fault it really, plenty of poke but not in the VRS league, but much better fuel useage.

With the 1.9TDI 105BHP, you can remap the engine.

SWMBO has an umapped (at the moment) 1.9TDi Sport, and it's bloody marvellous - I even enjoy driving it when I get the chance

Pulls well, looks as good as the new vRS, and the Trip 2 fuel consumption is running at over 56mpg

I like the look of the 1.9 TDI Sport and would be tempted myself to replace the vRS with one in the future. My only concern is whats the 5 speed box like for motorway use? I like having the long 6th gear for crusing at 70-80.

I think you've answered your own question, go for the pug after all its you that has to drive it :p

personally as much as the "pugs" may offer value for money I would never ever buy one again the last 3 I had had tons of problems, one was from new and the other where used. Never never never again................though in peugeots defence my first 2 pugs where great, it was the diesels that I had problems with.

As for the 5th gear I think all you will lose is the top end poke and speed.

There is alot on offer in the small hatchback sector so test drive a few and see which ones tick the boxes.

Doubt the gearing will be a problem apart from wen driving briskly, the 5th gear of my sport tdi is long enough, crusing at 70 is at 2100rpm i think.

Mine is quiet fast with the remap on aswell, but depends wot u want and need from the car.

I'm shocked to hear you had your mk1 vRS stolen! I didn't think it possible for anyone to steal one ,unless you left the keys lying around??

No car will come close to the vRS power wise, other than a new vRS! :)

I'd rather be sat in a slower Fabia II than a faster pug. Regardless of how they score in ncap tests and the likes of, I feel much safer in a Skoda than any French vehicle I've had the pleasure of travelling in.

Rik, you won't be disappointed at the 1.9TDI. It's a flyer. It has 250nm of torque really really low down and your old VRS couldn't match it at those revs. It just takes off in standard form. It easily outpaces the VRS on the 'in gear' acceleration tests so for real world driving it's a real hoot. If you mapped it (very cheap to do) it'll blow your socks off, but most people think it's fast enough as it is.

Driven both cars, and for me the MK1 vRS is my pick of the bunch. The 105bhp engine is ok and mapped there better. BUT as an allround package I think your money would be better on a MK1 mate. Plus driving mine about I have no idea how I ever lived without 6th gear am always in that gear.

Plus I sold my MK2 Sport For a MK1 vRS (THANKS TO MY INSURANCE  )

As for the pug, there nice cars but for long XXXXXXXmileage I would perfer to go threw those with a skoda. But hey am biased :giggle:

I have a 1.9TDi Fabia 3 (same engine just a different interior spec). Love it. Plenty fast enough, loads of toque and comfortable. Fuel economy not bad either. I keep an accurate record of fuel consumption measured manually brim to brim . The Fabia is about 2 mpg less than my previous 1.4TDi Fiesta - and a much bigger, faster and more comfortable car at that. It doesn't need a remap in my opinion. Can't comment on the Pug but I will be buying another Fabia when I change in a couple of years.

We have a MKII Octavia vRS and a MKII Fabia 1.9 Sport. The Fabia is more comfortable

to drive and has more than enough go when required. Gave a Fabia vRS a fright the day,

and that was with the wife driving :)

I have seen over 70 MPH on a trip to work in the Fabia too :)

I have thought about chaging to another Fabia for me but would miss the Power of the petrol :)
