NERVOUS ABOUT MY NEW CAR

Featured Replies

Still loving my Octavia. We got about 34,000 out of the tyres. The gearbox is flawless, as someone else said. The only things I've replaced are two bulbs in 2 years. I am getting about 50+ mpg, even on short journeys. I have found Skoda service to be excellent.

Could ruin a few peoples day driving like that, especially in the rain

I think it's always a worry coming to sites like this, seeing all the problems people are having. But, go to other manufacturer oriented sites and you'll see the same thing, thread after thread discussing common or uncommon faults / issues. Then think about the small representative sampling of actual owners and it probably works out at a relatively small number of owners that are encountering problems.

I used to think the same, after buying a new Seat Leon TDi SE back in 2003, then joining the biggest UK Seat owners forum. However, in 7 years of ownership, and 142K miles, it has never missed a beat or let me down once. No issues, just the regular servicing and replacement of commonly worn items - brakes, tyres etc and still going strong (with a few squeaks and rattles on rough surfaces).

Issues can affect all cars. I am sure the driver of the Mercedes SLR I saw a few weeks back, sitting on the hard shoulder with whisps of smoke / steam rising from under the bonnet, was probably thinking the same as the OP and, perhaps thinking he should have bought the VRs instead.... and used the rest of the money for a corking year-long holiday!

after 7 years of Octy vrs Mk1 ownership, I use my cars in leu of a company car, got to say both the mk1's were fantastically reliable, I put nearly 200k miles on them combined....now got a CR170 DSG and it is an awesome motor absolutely elated with it  done nearly 12K front Conti sports are on about 4mm....and I don't hang about.....I wouldn't worry, Skoda make great cars, as far as dealer service, find a good one and stick with them, my local dealer knows me well, servicing, not problems and they are spot on, tons better than the carp service I have had with past marques such as peugeot, Vauxhall and alfa!

I am starting to get the shakes! Is there anyone out there who is totally pleased with their VRS? emoticon-0104-surprised.gif

From a starting point of 12 miles on the clock to 149,898 miles and I have just handed my vRS back to the lease company.

Awaiting arrival of a Superb Elegance 170.

This is the first time in almost 30 years of choosing / using company cars that I have chosen the same manufactures twice in a row.

Don't only concentrate on the negatives. they are very few in comparison.

You'll love it................................with extended delivery dates, I hope you can stand the wait!

•Have tyres that sawtooth due to geometry problems

NOT HAD THIS PROBLEM

•Have problems with DSG

N/A

•Have driver seat collapse

YES - BUT FIXED UNDER WARRANTY_ SKODA AWARE OF PROBLEM AND HAVE MODIFIED THE BOLSTER FOAM.

•Front tyres that last only 6k miles

MY CONTIS ON FRONT HAVE 18K NOW AND STILL HAVE LIFE LEFT

•Easily chipping paint

NOT NOTICED THIS _ ALL CARS USE WATER BSED PAINTS I BELIEVE WHICH IS MORE SUSCEPTABLE.

•Poor customer support from Skoda

NO PROBLEM MY BOSS HAS FAR GREATER PROBLEMS WITH BMW.

They are really good value cars dont worry thousands of drivers out there with no problems never need to post!

I did 30k in an Octavia 2.0TDI combi and have just bought a diesel Scout and neither car has missed a beat. I think they are one of the best value all rounder family cars on the market. My wife and I love the way we can go on holiday and take everything including the kitchen sink and two kids without the car even feeling full. Now with the Scout I am amazed at it's comfort and grip even with summer tyres. I've spend the last week exploring Powys in awful weather mainly and it's been terrific. I only wish you could get 3 child seats in the back without resorting to a suv or family blobowagon..

Reliabilityindex.com compiles the results of 10 years of Warranty Direct claims. The Octavia has a rating of 60, where 100 is average, less than 100 is more reliable than average and more than 100 is less reliable than average. The Octavia results are here http://www.reliabilityindex.com/reliability/search/185 .

If you look at manufacturers http://www.reliabilityindex.com/manufacturer Skoda are the highest ranked non-Japanese car company.

Awaiting delivery of my new VRS diesel estate, I am starting to get rather nervous. Reading this site, day after day, makes me think I am going to pay a load of £ for a car that will:

  • Have tyres that sawtooth due to geometry problems
  • Have problems with DSG
  • Have driver seat collapse
  • Front tyres that last only 6k miles
  • Easily chipping paint
  • Poor customer support from Skoda

- We have had our FL VRS for 7 months, done 16K miles and just started replacing tyres. no sign of sawtoothing but wear slightly uneven and OE Dunlops were average not great.

- DSG, 6 speed is good, no real issues on one I had, down side is £140 servicing cost every 40K miles. 7 speed is much better but not available of VRSs (part of reason I have gone for 1.8 TSI due next weekend)

- Seats OK at the moment, isolated few issues I would say.

- Already have a couple of chips, one of front valance and one on bonnet. Either touch it up yourself or ask to be done at service time

- Savilles near Kiddeminster seem superb, I am just about to have our 4th car off them this year, 2 new, 2 second hand, service has been top knotch. Have used most Skoda garages within 30m of worc, they are the best.

- Pleased with the petrol VRS, think that the 1.8TSI DSG L&K will be even better. Diesels I find a bit dull sorry but we get 40 mpg from the VRS and you should get close to 48 mpg out of the DSG VRS ie 20% better.

No one should be totally please with any car. I want 4 wheel drive, I want 260 hp at least, proper not chipped where it only occurs in a little peak on an exxagerated graph, and hybrid so it does 50 plus mpg, petrol of course!

Will keep my eyes open at Savilles and spot your new car. I use them too and they are a good dealer.

Enjoy your new motor.

Well, I've got three out of the four with my Superb but unfortunately I can't quite stretch to 50 plus mpg!!

Not wishing to "rain on your parade" but as the owner of a FL VRS TSi and the Rider of a Suzuki SV , I would say you were either very lucky to manage to pass or more likely the motorcylist had more sense....... glad no one came to any harm :|

Just wondering if this is the front only being replaced @16K

Actually Front near side moved to the back at 13K as was getting close to wear blocks and did the same for the off side at 15K.

Now got the Michelin Pilot Sport 3 it is noticable better than it was with the Dunlops.

Hmmm… undertook at 130mph, in the rain, on a negative camber bend? You, my friend, are either a bull5hitter, or a bell-end of the highest order and deserve to be taught a lesson. :swear:

130 mph in the pi$$ing rain on a corner!

I hope you only kill yourself and nobody else or have your licence removed before you do.

I'm not saying be an angel, but what you describe is just stupid.

Absolutely love my VRs TSI. I know yours will be a TD, had diesel before (not Skoda) and now I wouldn't go back.

Seat bolster is a bit saggy, but I'm sure that will be remedied come service time.

Tyres are barely showing wear at 6k.

The build quality otherwise seems excellent!

As a side note most manufacturers have problems with their cars. Naturally people come to forums to resolve any problems they might be having, so take it all with a pinch of salt. Previously owned Nissans, Vauxhalls, Fords, Fiats,VW's, Porsche and BMW. None of the dealers/manufacturers were faultless, with Nissan being far and away the worst.

So far I have been mightily impressed with Skoda
