NERVOUS ABOUT MY NEW CAR

Featured Replies

Awaiting delivery of my new VRS diesel estate, I am starting to get rather nervous. Reading this site, day after day, makes me think I am going to pay a load of £ for a car that will:

  • Have tyres that sawtooth due to geometry problems
  • Have problems with DSG
  • Have driver seat collapse
  • Front tyres that last only 6k miles
  • Easily chipping paint
  • Poor customer support from Skoda

I am starting to get the shakes! Is there anyone out there who is totally pleased with their VRS? emoticon-0104-surprised.gif

If you havent had the car, maybe you could ask them to do a check ( and provide proof that its been done) of the geometry before you take delivery?

•Have problems with DSG

Ive got DSG on my Octavia diesel estate and its brilliant, faultless, i love it!

•Have driver seat collapse

Can happen, just had my lumbar support replaced under warranty. Its only a 3 hour job ( once they have the correct part)

•Front tyres that last only 6k miles

Mine lasted 9000 miles but they were dunlop and i wasnt very happy with them in any case

•Easily chipping paint

I suffered this on all my other cars ( non Skodas) so when i bought this one, i invested in the 3M ventureshield and got it fitted by a company in Birmingham to protect the front of the car including the whole bonet and i havent had a chip on the car at all

•Poor customer support from Skoda

I cant complain at this, ive probably experienced the best support of all the cars ive had in the last 10 years ( 11 cars). Skoda have come up trumps for me and cant do enough for you.

Remember this, when you read online forums, you will see the concentrate of negitive comments over positive as people usually use the forums to try and find out how to fix their car or if its a commmon problem. Im sure you will love the car! ;)

I love mine...................and I have the driver seat issue.........................and after two attempts to correct the seat has gone to the trimmers........two weeks tomorrow........it better be coming back.

I miss it and I love it..................what else can you buy for the pound

The dealers seem fine but I must admit I think toyota customer service will be very hard to beat, nothing but outstanding from them.

I have a 2008 vRS petrol and its been perfect. I really like the car. No problems, never been for any warranty work. No creaks, no rattles.

However I do look after the car and baby it - i.e. never go above about 3000rpm until its fully warm. Had full 3D geometry check after I bought it, and then every year. Service it annually and not on 'variable'. Check all fluids and air weekly etc.

Having worked in the motor trade I can tell you that 90% of cars are not 'looked after' - i.e. driven hard from cold, skipped services, noises and warning lights ignored, oil not checked until the light comes on etc etc. I suspect most users of this site DO look after their cars better than the average.

I have a 2010 FL TDi vrs and WHAT A CAR, i dont have dsg but all the other things you mentioned have not happened (yet  ). Worth every penny brilliant car. And always remember most folks come to a forum to bemoan faults , but look at all the Octy's on the road and think how few come on this forum.

You can also add an oversensitive interior alarm sensor to the list. I got my car back from a 4 day spell at the garage for a replacement DSG.

LOVE IT!!!

Last night

****ing rain

Sweeping left hander

Negative camber

Undertook Suzuki SV at 130mph -ish

Ruined his day!!

Who did you get to do Ventureshield? I got a quote from Covertech in Birmingham, they do Morgan`s cars. My car due to be built in 2 weeks (fingers crossed) Also looking at getting car detailed at dealers by Midlands Detailing.

My thoughts exactly - going on most forums can scare you senseless !

Take a look over on civininfo - loads and loads of problems with Honda Civics yet they are the most reliable make you can buy...

Waiting on delivery of petrol VRS (just a matter of a couple of weeks now), are these fairly common issues, is tyre wear really that bad? new tyres after 6k miles?!?

My tyre wear seems comparable with previous cars that I've owned. I expect at least 12k from fronts. A lot depends on how hard you drive the car and where you drive it - i.e. cruising motorways all day is less harsh that taxi-driving in town!

When my car was new I had full 4-wheel 3D alighnment done, which was well worth it. Front and rear toe was out and one rear was out on the camber. I had it done at about 2k miles after all the bushes had chance to bed in. Welll work it IMHO.

lads to be honest the positives more than make up for a few minor issues, i love my rs

Ha,

I wouldnt be worried about Skoda. Ive had an Octy 2 (although i wouldnt buy a car from Wings or Peterborough again) and a fabia vrs before without compaint about the cars or customer service.

The fabia went 60000 miles in 2.5 years without a hitch.

Justa mentioned the Honda civic, which is what i am trading in for the Octy vrs tomorrow, the Octy being above and beyond the Honda for build quality etc.

You wont have any worries with Skoda i'm sure!

We have an Octavia Scout, an Abarth 500 & A Nissan

The Skoda may not be the most fun but its the best built by far & when you get the odd niggle our dealer at least is brilliant.

If you need any parts they are readily available unlike the Abarth which has had 2 stints of a month off the road waiting for parts under warranty & Im discovering with the Zed out of warranty the Nissan parts prices are complete robbery. I also wouldnt class it as reliable & well built (but it goes like stink  )

As others have said most posts on forums are the "bad news" & yes you may get the odd problem but overall you wont be disapointed,

No problems with mine - 20k out of the front tyres (Contis), no dsg issues, no nothing. My third Octy...don't think all posters complain - only those with issues or looking for help will shout out.

I know, empty road otherwise etc. etc

Sounds more like an empty head to me emoticon-0114-dull.gif

Take a look at this thread

http://briskoda.net/...1entry2146318

Skodas have common faults but no worse then any other make - in fact significantly better than some!

As others have said forums like this tend to focus on people trying to find solutions to problems so it skews the impression.

Good thread. Thanks for everyone's thoughts.emoticon-0148-yes.gif

I've not noticed any of the above and I'm at about 11k miles so far.

Far from poor customer support from Skoda I've had great support from the dealer.

2007 TFSI 39k not a single issue so far.

I bought an approved used Octavia vRS 2.0CR and am regretting it.

The car goes fine and was reasonable value compared to similar models.

However after numerous trips to the dealer they can't fix my fuel economy problem and have no estimate as to when they will fix it.

I wouldn't buy a Skoda again.
