Best Android web browser - opinions?

Featured Replies

I'd like to hear your opinions/suggestions re. web browsers. Most often I use Opera Mini - fast, but the server-sida compressions sometimes causes trouble with certain web pages. HTCs own default browser is not what I would call user-friendly. Have recently downloaded Dolphin which seems to work OK, but I still have to get used to it. Being on Android 1.6 I can't try Firefox 4 beta :(

Are there other interesting alternatives out there?

I use Dolphin HD.

Vast amount of plugin's available and fast - not found a website that it didn't render properly (yet).

Have you tried Opera Mobile as that might be an upgrade to the Mini version that you use and I've just noticed UC Browser as well but haven't installed it yet.

What's the issues with the HTC browser?

@john999boy: thanks, will check opera mobile (there's a beta available for android 1.6)

@daiking: it's just that I don't feel comfortable with it... can't pinpoint any specific issue

Tried Dolphin, and didnt like it at all.

Might give Opera a go myself, as always loved it on my N96.

Dolphin and most recently Dolphin HD for me (HTC Desire running Froyo).

Are there any that can import settings/passwords etc from the stock browser?

I installed Firefox after Swedish mentioned it and thought it mentioned something about importing stuff from your main computer.

Then again, I could just be dreaming it all. :o

Yes, firefox can, but dont like the UI and is very bloaty. When I tried it the install was 30mb!

The FF Beta 2 is said to be reduced to 17mb.

After trying Dolphin for some time I must say that it has its advantages, but it's way slower than Opera, especially if one loses 3G and is stuck on a GPRS connection (in Sweden that happens often on the countryside, on trains &c). And Opera's speed dial is great on a smartphone - I know there's a speed dial add-on for Dolphin HD, but can't run that on android 1.6 :(

I had a play with the Skyfire 2.0 Beta recently due to its Flash rendering function, however my eBay-special Android tab didn't like it much. A branded device might cope better, though - it's supposedly OK for 1.6? Like you, I generally use Opera Mini since I'm used to it for my Windows phone anyway...

One problem I noticed with the latest Firefox beta was if it wasn't already open and I clicked on a hyperlink in another app, Firefox opened at it's last url and not at the new one. It's probably one of the things to sort before going to RC.

Thanks for the suggestion! Have downloaded Skyfire 2.3 (that works with android 1.6) and will try it out. Skyfire 3 is out, too but thankfully requests android 2. That means that I don't have to suffer from Facebook Portal Integration :shudder: :D
