Continental Winter Contact TS830

Featured Replies

I do over 350 miles a week just commuting to work on A/B roads. So I will let you lot know if these tyres are any good.

---

Just smashed my front left alloy this morning, I was turning right onto another road and completely lost control. Really annoyed as I was only doing about 5-10mph at the time, trying to be careful because it was Icy, but just had to sit there and watch the car slowly skid into a kerb. Not sure if there was much I could have done to avoid it, but it's done now. Luckily no other cars were around, and there were no parked cars, otherwise it could have been very expensive.

The hub, brakes, etc are ok because I was only sliding quite slowly, just the kerb was a big one and sliding into it broke a big chunk of the alloy off, so that had to be scrapped.

I got 4 new Continental Winter Contact TS830 put on the remaining alloys, didn't have a choice of tyres as they were the only ones Kwik-Fit had, so I hope they are good. They checked the hub/brakes/etc, and re-aligned the wheels. Not bad for £363.55 (inc. VAT), luckily I looked at their website price before phoning them as that saved me £173.40 - I think the branch put a massive markup on them because of the snow.

I put the original tyres in storage, and will put them back on when the temps go above 7c.

Just need to get another alloy for my spare, luckily the tyre that was on the broken wheel didn't get damaged so I still have a 5th tyre to go on a new wheel.

Just hope I don't need a spare wheel to pass the MOT, as I'm not confident the Skoda dealer near me will be able to get me another alloy before the MOT next Saturday.

You don't need a spare for the MOT.

As above you do not need a spare for M.O.T.

If your wheel alignment had to be adjusted better get car to a dealer or garage that has the latest suspension and steering alignment equipment, you most likely only had the tracking checked. A side slide even slowly that ruined a wheel could well have missaligned more that the tracking.

I put a few weeks go TS830 and so far no snow but on massive rain and pools of water they have been very stable.

I'm not sure if it did need adjusting, they recommended that I get it done. I would have hoped if the suspension/steering/etc was knackered that they would have spotted it, I have an MOT booked next week so that might pick up any problems if there are any.

I'm never taking my car to a Skoda Dealer ever again, my local one is incompetent and charged me £900 when I needed the cambelt/water pump doing, and had my car for 2 days. My local Kwik-Fit has been very good in my experience, I use them for everything now, not quite sure why people don't like them.

My car was delivered with the new Continental IceContact(with spikes) and they are the best I have ever driven on.

they have been in the top 2 in all the 2010 winter tests. i am getting a set on tuesday

Just been checking Mytyres....prices have leapt up phenomenally in the last week, my winters are due Tuesday too, and have gone up £100 for the 4 since I ordered and paid :giggle:

Winter price abuse! Buy winter tires on summer and summer one on winter always :)

LOL - my Kumhos have gone up £140 since I bought them last month.

Continental WinterContact TS830......LOVE THESE TYRES!!!!

Got them fitted earlier this week (kwik-fit online...reasonable price). The 15 inches of snow today didn't present them with any problems whatsoever! Only other vehicles I seen on the road getting around with such ease were big 4x4s.

Similar conditions last year, my car wouldn't move half the length of itself with the summer tyres. Well impressed.

Ordered Nokian NRG2 from mytyres last week...... Wishing I'd ordered them a couple of weeks prior as I could use them now !

Hoping they are delivered soon, but thankful I atleast ordered them last week, as now they're just over £100 more a set !

Winter tyres make such a dramatic difference in poor conditions.

I even passed a Freelander yesteday in my Golf with Vredestein wintrac extremes fitted. :D Guys face was priceless!

No they don't...when the tyres are in the boot and the rims 5 miles away !! I can't even get to a main road at the moment :'(

I've just recieved a quote from Bush tyres for 4 steel wheels and some winter tyres...A grand :o :o :o :o :o Think i'll just not bother driving the car. Can't believe how much prices are jumping up.

I struggled a bit on the Coopers today....

but then I was attempting to reverse into my drive through 15" of snow, where I was taking a different line from the two tyre tracks I made coming out earlier... :giggle:

Last year I'd have put around 10 miles on the clock from spinning wheels just trying to get the car to move an inch.

I have to say, it's reassuring to have a sure-footed car beneath me. everybody else is trecking through 18" of snow with theiir shopping bags on the kids' sledges.

Kwikfit are doing reasonably priced Contis and get the steels from Skoda. My outlay is £550.00 worth every penny in this weather.

@luke_a: Your tires came out as best in the test by ADAC.de - you should be very happy with them!

I just ordered the same Conty Tyres from kwik-fit, and 4 new steelies from my Skoda dealer. Picking/fitting on Saturday

Guys, I've looked on the Kwik-Fit website and can't see these Conintental Winter Contact TS830's... I've found them via mytyres but at £119 a corner! (incl. fitting) Surely they can't have run out in a day?!

I've just had a look and they are still there in 205/55R16 size. Same price as a few days ago (approx £81 each) and I get my 4 fitted on Saturday (just checked and thay do have them set aside for me).

I didn't do anything special, just selected tyre size, unticked 'summer' tyre and there was just the Continental left.

I don't have a summer tyre option... It just says enter the summer tyre details and they'll find both winter and summer tyres... They still don't come up. Are you using kwik-fit.com?

Sorry, scratch that - I was entering W speed code and the winter tyres are coming up under V!!

I've got the Conti TS830's from kwikfit and they are amasing.

They are still on the kwikfit website for my size (205 55 16's) so maybe they have run out on other sizes.

So worth every penny!
