BT Fon and Openzone

Featured Replies

Is it possible to access a local Fon or Openzone hotspot using a non-Home hub wireless router - I have a BT voyager wireless router and i can see, via the modems wireless network configuration web page, FON and openzone connections running off a nearby home hub. However, when i try to detect these through Windows network sharing facilty, Vista cannot see them.

Whilst I have a braodband connection, recently its being going down at regular intervals due to technical faults. I was looking at FON or Openzone as a way of keeping a minimal braodband connection during these outages.

Is it feasible to make such a connection ? Would I need to connect in windows using VPN ?

You need to be a BT Total Broadband customer or have a BTOpenZone account.

I'm a Bt Broadband customer but my account is one of the original 2002 accounts throttled at 2mB/sec (I really don't need any more than that), so possibly not Total Broadband.

The thing is, if I enable the repeater page on the Voyager modem I can see both a FON and a separate Open Zone connection, showing MAC addresses. It would appear all I need to do is tick a check box next to one or other of the connections and I would be in. Disadvantage is that my machine would see these BT wireless networks as extensions of my own !!!

AsPhilpix says. Only BT Broadband customers can use this. If you are then log onto your on line account and search "Fon" and register yerself The deal is, you give up 0.5meg of bandwidth on your router then you can use all the other Fon, Openzone hotspots.
