Need A TV

Featured Replies

Right my parents TV is on the way out. Green lines have started appearing on it. They have a 26" at the moment but could go to a 32". I like Sony but open to suggestion. Budget is less than £400 but obviously the less spent the better. Can anyone recommend me good sets and I can try and find the cheapest.

Thanks in advance

Martyn

If you like the sony's, you can get the equivilent of the vat back on some at the moment - see http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/feature.html/ref=amb_link_158275187_3?ie=UTF8&docId=1000458573&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=hero-quick-promo&pf_rd_r=12BK9NQCV3J9ZCZTGFD9&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_p=216709007&pf_rd_i=B003BVI49E

This one is £379 at amazon at the moment - less the vat would make it £323: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-KDL32EX403U-Widescreen-Internet-Freeview/dp/B003BVI49E/ref=br_lf_m_1000458573_1_12_ttl?ie=UTF8&m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&s=electronics&pf_rd_p=218998287&pf_rd_s=center-3&pf_rd_t=1401&pf_rd_i=1000458573&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=1Q5NEGPBXVNCW4A8FRPC

I've been researching 32" tvs recently for the bedroom.

For your price range go try the Sony KDL 32EX503, it's a What HiFi award winner and has tons of features. Can be had for about £400 with the Vat back scheme if you shop around

Sony KDL-32EX503

Or there's the LG 32LE5900, LED backlit, 100Hz, Freeview HD, Netcast internet channels, Full HD. Again, can be found for about £450 if you shop about. Went to have a look in Comet and the picture is fantastic.

LG 32LE5900

Can't believe I bought a Beko 32" LCD TV about 3 years ago using the Argos "voucher trick" for £200. :D It's still going strong

I do like the look of the EX503 but Haven't seen it for a tidy price yet. The LG is tempting though. What I don't get is that the LG says that it's contrast ratio is 5,000,000-1 whereas the Sony doesn't say anywhere.

I wouldn't buy anything else than a Panasonic, 5years warranty and price guarantee from John Lewis. Got 2 so far.

Here's the Sony with a 5 year guarantee from PRCdirect for £399. That price is with the VAT back taken into account. Not sure how good the warranty is though.

5 year warranty is an extra £159 from PRCdirect. In truth I'm not sure these 5 year warranties are worth buying as in my experience LCD screens tend to go after 5 years use and not before. On the other hand I may have been very lucky.

Saw the 403 in a shop yesterday and it's about £100 or so cheaper than the 503. The 503 is nice but my can't can't justify the price. Went to go and buy it on the John Lewis site this moring and it's gone up £20 to £429. B******s!

Forget the price they advertise it at. Scan round the other retailers for the best price and tell JL, they'll match it.

Something I found - Comet will price match JL. Although JL has a better warranty etc, but if one is out of stock/not local to you. . .

JL warranty is bloody good as well.

Really? So even if I find it on a small internet retailer they will match the price? I take it that it will still incude the warranty? I'll pop up there this evening just to check it out. Take my parents up there on Monday.

Thanks guys.

Comet will only price match if:

JL have it in stock to take away.

the store is within 10Mile radius.

JL warranty is bloody good as well.

JL warranty........ is that not just an extended warranty and not full cover.

Sony are Cack nowadays, as for LG alls i am saying is the company started life making tubs for face cream.

32" hate to say it but at that price ask for a 4 series Samsung. more than enough for some olds.

little extra cash..... Panasonic all the way, the Viera is best engine in the market ATM.

That link to the samsung TV above is actually over a year old that model..... if you are looking new you need 'LE32C4???, LE32C5???, LE32C6??? or LE32C7???'

Bish Bash Bosh :

Samsung LE32C450 £266

Right been looking at a few TV's today and I have to say the top of the range Panasonics do look good. I do like Sony's but everyone I know buy Samsung. Is it because they're cheap? I know nothing about them. I'm more confused now than when I started,

Right I think I will stick with the EX503. I just need to find somewhere that John Lewis will price match with. It has to be proper shop (not online only) but not necessarily a local one (for now). The EX503 isnt in Richer Sounds which I'm gutted about as it's one that's round the corner and they regularly price match with them. Here it is on RGB Direct. The store is in Essex (JL is in Cardiff). I hope this will be OK.

As for warranty it won't cover neglect, etc but will cover any repair if it goes faulty/replacement and for 5 years that's good. Our current TV is almost 4 years old and it's playing up.

JL warranty........ is that not just an extended warranty and not full cover.

And the differnece is?

In the past couple of months I've used this warranty on a 4 year old TV. We called JL, a man turned up to look at it within a couple of days (if you can take a anytime of the day type appointment), says its buggered, we need to take it away to fix it, installs a loan TV to watch in the meantime and brings ours back, fixed, a week later.

Not sure what was lacking there? You might only get a 32" loaner but that's we have anyway so no problem here.

OTOH my parent bought a TV from Comet and took out their extended warranty and didn't get a loaner for the several weeks it took to say its buggered and them offer a replacement. Which to be fair to comet was a much better branded TV than the cheap original that was a few years old

JL warranty........ is that not just an extended warranty and not full cover.

I had a sony vaio laptop from john lewis, the screen died 2 days before the warranty ended. Took it into them and walked out with a brand new laptop the value of the original one
