Camskill are advertising them in stock in 205/55 R16 91H and there usually pretty accurate on stocking. The Avons in some sizes however appear far more expensive this year, for example Camskill were advertising 215/60 R16 in June for around £76, there now back in stock at £117.50

Went for Hankook's W310 in the 215 size for our Yeti, again from Camskill, as they were and still are at last years £76.50 price, this is compared to mytyres who are currently asking £123

Also purchased some Goodyear Vector 4seasons for the lads old fabia, they came from the Polish firm Oponeo. First class service, with regular e-mails and arrived Thursday morning from Poland having ordered the previous Sunday.

costco have Michelin Alpins in a range of sizes but I had a quick look at the 205 55 r16 and they were £97 plus VAT

Well got my wheels and tyres today from Mytires, but they only delivered 3 yet all were picked up at same time according to tracking no ,anyway 4 th one getting delivered tommorow, oh yeah nobody in so they just left em in back garden.

I thought I'd read just about everything about winter tyres, but I hadn't.

I knew that the letters were the speed ratings, i.e. H = 130 mph and V = 139, but whilst you won't be going that fast on the winters watch out if your MOT is due on your winter tyres. If you car can exceed 130 mph and you have H its a fail :o

Was in a panic as I've got H's but I dug out my original 2008 brochure that puts PD 2.0TDI top speed at 129 mph :whew:

But the newer CR 2.0TDI is booked at 138 mph.

So watch out all you VRS drivers if you have a winter MOT get the correct speed rating unless anyone can say this is incorrect.

Would it make a difference if you set the 'winter tyre speed' alert on your MFD at the appropriate speed?

From what I can find on tinternet, speed ratings aren't part of the class IV test...

I can't find that in http://www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/publications/manualsandguides/vehicletestingmanualsandguides.htm - it looks like L rating or higher is always legal, J and K are sometimes legal (weight related - the load capacity of the tyre is reduced at 70mph), and F is only legal on some vehicles (those that can't exceed 50mph).

Having said that, you need to check with insurance - it's not unknown for insurers to demand that your tyres are rated to the top speed of your vehicle, even when (as with winter tyres) that's plainly ridiculous.

Well I'm still waiting to hear from mytyres and now I'm getting concerned about this order. emoticon-0149-no.gif

I am still waiting too, ordered 4th October, asked for update on 14th,was informed no problems order was progressing? Just hope everything IS alright and I don't have to re-order,as looking at the same wheel/tyres today, the price has increased by £200???.

When i first ordered i heard nothing so e mailed my tires and got e mail back stating as soon as in there depot i would get e mail which i did then got a tracking no for them.

got my forth wheel today left in back garden again ( good job im honest )

I'm in the same boat! Ordered 195/55 x 15 Avon Ice Touring ST with Mytyres and checking my order status it says 'Unfortunately, we can't give you an exact delivery date just yet. We'll let you know as soon as possible' So perhaps they are having trouble sourcing them just as tyre dealers in the UK are. You'd think that Avon being a UK company would look after the home market first.

Has anyone else had this message but got their tyres within a couple of weeks, if not might consider changing to a brand that they have in stock. Don't want to miss out with the fun in the snow if it comes early again :giggle:

Just to add my two-penneth. I ordered a set of Avons on steelies on the 7th October and didn't hear a peep beyond the "thanks for your order" e-mail. A pending transaction of £400+ appeared on my credit card then vanished after 10 days. My CC company said that's because the vendor (ie. mytyres) hadn't completed the transaction.

The mytyres web-site won't let me log in to check order status so I mailed them on the 18th and got two replies - one saying nothing apart from "thanks for waiting" and the other two hours later in fractured English saying that they should be available next week.

Hmm we'll see...

I ordered some Hankook W310s for the fabia on monday from MyTyres. Initially had an email saying there was a backlog of orders and I'd be contacted when they were available for dispatch. Yesterday (Thursday) I had another email confirming that the tyres were now in the warehouse and would be shipped from Germany with an expected arrival date of 27th. There's also 2 consignment numbers with DPD but it showing as being in the system.

I rung them to day and spoke to their representative who spoke fractured English with an African twang and trying to get her to understand what was required to say the least was tricky. :o

It's now 22 days since the order and no sign, no further emails from them.

Now I've been offline & phone due to the pikey scumbags nicking a load of phone cable last week, but I used a smartphone to email them the warning that I was only contactable via my mobile, however I'm now back online again now, so called them to let them know normal service has been resumed.

I ordered my winter's from Camskill last year (Vredestine Wintrac Xtreme's) and they were £120 ea - this year, £160+ and no stock! - OUCH! (18") - Glad they are good for the next few years!

But, i've just ordered, on wednesday, Pirelli winter tyres for the wife's Kia Cee'd - they were dispatched on Thursday, and arrived Friday - No complaints, what so ever.

Al.

Used mytyres in December 09 for winter tyres; arrived within the week. Tried them again a year later for winter tyres with steel rims for the wife's Fabia, not as quite as good a service this time around. This year I've noticed their prices have not always been as competitive as some of their rivals. As I've changed car I needed some new winters and found Camskill to be £45 a corner cheaper than mytyres for Hankooks :o Also very recently used the Polish outfit Oponeo for a set of all-seasons for my lads Fabia I; ordered Sunday arrived from Poland Thursday morning, with regular e-mails including one informing me I'd taken delivery :giggle:

The mytires website would not let me log in even though I tried four different passwords , by the way I got four different tracking numbers one for each wheel but won't show Untill courier picks them up.

After checking about and reading a few reviews, I've ordered some Nankang SV-2 from Mytyres last week....WITH steel rims for my Superb.

At £99 each, I'm not complaining but we will see what happens when / IF they turn up!

I'll keep you informed.

Another convert; well done.

At the end of the day though 'you pays your money and takes your choice'.

Whilst Nankang winter tyres will be better than any summer tyre in snow/slush they will not be as good as the 'premium' offerings from Michelin, Pirelli, Continental et al.

This month's EVO has a very enlightening Winter Tyre test of 6 Winter, 3 All Season and 1 summer (for control/comparison). Details can be read here;- http://www.evo.co.uk/news/evonews/274042/evo_2011_winter_tyre_test_the_intro.html

Have a look at the braking distance in snow of the summer tyre - its frightening!

My winters have just been delivered from mytyres, 3 days earlier than expected.

No doubt about it....but when it's a company car and having the "premium" tyres would have cost 2-3 times the amount and they didn't want me to spend out on tyres in the first place...I reckoned that these were a good compromise!

I do tend to get through a lot of tyres...averaging 30-40k per year, so I figured that for the slight difference in performance, saving over £400 was worth it.

Hope I made the right choice!! :S

I definitely think you made the right choice in your circumstances.(i would of done the same)...
