People who run veg oil in their diesels run 10% petrol sometimes so I'm guessing your 5ish % will be fine, just keep chucking diesel in every 100 miles or so I guess.

Should help stop the diesel freezing.

Absolutely not a problem, just tank up with diesel over the top.

£62 of diesel wouldn't fit in my tank?!

It should do if you use the expansion tank - you press the fuel nozzle agaibst a little round plastic valve in the top of the tank, it releases air and should allow another £10 of fuel to be added (but it aint quick and can annoy the person waiting behind you)!

It would, it fits in my tank just fine.

Just use the nozzel of the pump to hold the valve thing open.

Tried that, only just managed to break £50. Must have cheap diesel here.

I'd need to fit 52 litres in the car to spend £62. Official capacity is 44? litres? Can you really fit in an extra 8 litres using the expansion? That's quite impressive!

The first time I tried it it couldn't get more than £50 in.

The next time I gave the nipple a good wiggle :giggle:

It made a hissing noise of escaping air & I got £62 in it at 122.9 per litre.

Be fine I drove mine of 5-10mins with £20 of petrol and about £3 of diesel :giggle:

Doesn't the smell of a petrol immediately get alarm bells ringing? :D Its the most distinctive thing between the two pumps - oh, apart from one being black and the other green. :D:giggle:

i got 12 litres in the expansion

Not when the handle was black for V-POWER :giggle:

Still be running smoother ever since I might add.

Surely it's called an expansion tank for a reason??? So you lot are the people who over fill their diesel tank and then promptly spill it on the road, for myself and other motorcyclists to have a brown trouser moment when we hit it going round a corner! Thanks! :(

Oh be quiet...it's fine.

Not much 'expansion' taking place at this time of year ;)

IIRC, it was more for the benefit of petrol Fabias.

Well if I get wiped out on my bike because of spilt diesel, I'll come back and bloody haunt you ok!!!!

A couple of weeks ago I put 8.26 litres of V power unlealed into the wifes fabia vrs..... Doh

I topped it up with derv and carried on to work, all seemed OK and the same on the 10 mile jurney home after work.

But once home the engine would not restart when it was hot, so me and my mate drained 35 litres of fuel from the tank and topped it up again with derv.

Every 100 miles after that I kept topping the tank up......did this four times.

I'm very releived to say it looks like I have got away with it...... the only slightly odd thing is it seems to run much better and smoother than it did befor.

Just wish the wife would leave it now, and stop taking the p!ss :(

It's easily done. I've done the same myself with no ill effects (nor would I expect any). In ancient times adding a proportion of petrol (I think up to 10%) was recommended to prevent diesel sludging in very low temperatures. Just the thing for today's temperature - minus 8 degrees C here.

I have noticed no difference since putting the said amount of petrol in, infact its probably good with temperatures below -10C a few times now in Shropshire and I suspect a lot more to come as its still only early December, the really hard frosts don't usually start until after Christmas.

In fact at the end last month two tractors froze on the family farm from running summer derv. A trip to the petrol station resulted to dilute the derv!

brown trouser moment ...LOL

Haha I accidentally put £2.66 of petrol V-Power in my vRS today. I was being rushed and it was early in the morning, used to grabbing the petrol pump and just messed up. Realised pretty quickly and managed to fit £55 worth of diesel V-Power in after. I've done 100 miles today with no problem what-so-ever. :)

Ditto that - people who do this **** me off no end. Almost wiped out on snake pass when a ***** in a van did the same thing and left puddles of diesel over every left hand bend. We had words when I caught him up at the other end.
