Washer Jets Useless!

Featured Replies

I'm so glad I'm not the only one having real issues with this frozen jets!! I gradually kept upping the concentration of the screenwash, but anything below -3 its freezes again! On the way to work this morning, it was -1 leaving home, and the jets were fine....by the time it read -3, no water!!

Looking at the fuse box...the jets are supposed to be heated to prevent freezing in the nozzles...does this mean the headlamp washer jets or the windscreen ones?

Anyway, off to get some decent screenwash from the VAG dealer down the road.

I didn't know that! Well I have half a litre of VAG stuff in there now, -9 this morning and its still freezing all over the headlights :dull:

Going to add the rest of it and I hope this solves my problem!

The heated windscreen washer nozzles is an option, non std.

Hmmm interesting! Will go an measure the terminals in the fuse box..see if there is a voltage there.....I'm guessing I dont have them or it wouldn't keep freezing!!

Any ideas if its retrofit-able?

Couldnt resist hehe!

I don't see why it wouldnt be retro-fittable? I mean you can do heated seats!

I've had heated washer jets on a couple of cars. I found that the pipes leading to the jets just froze instead.

I've been using the slightly better Halfords premixed screenwash, the pink stuff. It's been fine and working right down to -16C here.

I have a bottle of Skoda stuff to use now I got at the last service because I'd filled mine.

The problem I've had (mostly) is that the water comes out of the jets, doesn't freeze, but the wipers are so cold that they don't wipe properly and I get a "blind" patch right in my line of vision! And that's even if I clear the wipers of ice etc before I start.

They're Bosch wipers too, none of this cheap crap! :D

I just went and used my second £50 freebie voucher.

Part of it went on 3 x 1 litre regular size bottles of VAG (not Skoda) screenwash (I was charged less than £4 a bottle but the Skoda version seems to be £4.99 on their accessories web site)

The very concentrated stuff HBA096039 is listed at £38 !! (Doesn't say how big it is but it doesn't look more than about 1 ltr. Hope it dilutes a lot!

have had problems with washers too runing neat washer fluid seen it down below -15,washers have defrosted today

but it seems or sounds like when i wash the rear screen that some fluid is coming into the cabin near the centre console

any one else had this ?

Haven't had my washers freeze up yet, but I do have a prblem getting the screen completely clean. I've tried adjusting the jets in various positions, and have replace the nearside one as I thought it might be partially blocked, but it's not made much difference. The drivers side is OK, but there's a patch in the bottom middle of the windscreen that never seems to get enough fluid, and is always smeary.

Does anyone else have this problem?

I'm thinking of fitting a third washer jet in the middle of the scuttle.

A common problem on the Octavia.

The rear washer pipes and connections are well known for being a weak point.

When you operate the rear wash the frozen water pushes the pipes off the connectors.

Now every time you operate the rear wash wipe you are filling your car with screen wash.

Sometimes they fail near the nozzle next to the high level brake light and fill up your spare wheel well, other times they fail near vital electrical connections.

More often than not they just leak a little so you don't notice there is a problem as water is still making it to the screen.

Where are the connections for the rear washer pipes? Mine has stopped working, and would appreciate some ideas as to where to look.

Thanks

Paul
