Very POORLY Superb

Featured Replies

Driving along since 0500hrs this morning and then at 1030 my Superb just stopped dead!!!!! Worse still I was pulling out of side road and the engine just cut out....total and finito. Very embarrassing as I had a red robe judge aboard as a passenger. Had to wait 3 hrs for the Skoda breakdown service to to arrive. A diagnostic test revealed that the ECU was totaled.....kaput big style. Car recovered to local stealer dealer in Plymouth but als by 5pm they had not looked the car. So much for the urgency.

After todays humungous **** up I had VERY real thoughts about getting rid of the car.

Stealer dealer made no offer whatsover re a loan car. In future they will not be getting any business from me whether i keep the car or not.

anyone got any ideas as the dash display ESP and turning light fault!!!

Did your remap do anything to the ECU?

Did your remap do anything to the ECU?

No it didnt.....apparantly according to Celtic Tuning. Gotta wait and see wot the stealer dealer finds in nx day or two :wonder:

Bad luck. really. But I think you will find similar stories in every other car brands forum.

in ur car profile it says u remapped ur car to 210 ??? no wonder it fuked up

Do you mean the anti slip and steering wheel icons are lit?

If so, that's not normally the ecu, it's the steering coloumn electrics unit playing up.

I thought remaps voided the warranty?

If Skoda find evidence of the remap could they refuse to pay for the repair?

Sorry to say it but yes and the insurance company could also leave you without any insurance cover what so ever unless they have been told that the engine power has been remapped to 210. Even fitting non standard wheels and tyre can render the insurance useless.

I've just tried to educate another not to re-map a BKP, or whatever Skoda wanna call it, the engine is a modded 1.9 PD engine, the VW boffs maxxed it as far as they could to stay with the competition, maxxing it further is asking for trouble, but do ppl listen, no they don't, we're all fools, fools that are £350 better off not doing the map, and £1-2k better off when it goes wrong, nice to see the OP's concern, he ain't even bothered to return to the thread to update, as barts points out, asking too much.

Guys

Every car Ihave owned over the 6 or 7 yrs has been remapped. I have never had any problem whatsoever and have never had any warranty issues. My Audi A6 3.0ltr TDI Le Man Edition pumps out just nigh on 330bhp and is a real barn stormer....a so called wolf in sheeps clothing. The car i fitted with milltech exhausts, hybrid turbo, an opened up air inlet system and yes this car has minor things fixed under warranty and the dealer'/audi nevr given me any issues or concerns.

The 170bhp engine remaps very easily to around 205 to 213 bhp with zero issues. If one were to go down the route of a add on box you will achieve similar results.

However for those that are interested the car is now as of today running again. The answer was after all NOT the ECU!!!! The ECU was removed and has been comprehensively tested and no faults were found. Skoda Technical were called in and ran a full series of tests on the car and the ECU......again no fault found with the ECU.

The culprit was a sensor (J519) which is something to do with the On Board Power Supply. The sensor was replaced and the car tested and runs sweet as a nut :smirk: The repair bill all covered under warranty.

As to those that bitch on about invalidating insurance.......yes thats true if you do not advise your insurers. In my case as my cars are used for commercial purposes I have indeed told my insurers. I have been penalised at 50 quid per car. I have maximum no claims on each vehicle with no accidents. Also I have a full clean licence.

I would have responded earlier but the nature of my work pulls me away from home alot. When away I only have my Blackberry Torch which is enuff.

If i remember correctly, J519 should be the central electric controlunit. If that one f*s up, the car is more or less dead as happened for you.

Zilwer......you have it spot on. This sensor also controls feed to the ECU and hence it was thought that the ECU had given up the ghost.

Yes everything went dead. However the car is now sorted

My stock car makes 200hp on the dot why remap them just run them in properly in the first place

Richf......my car has done 17,000 miles since new in March 2010. I can assure you that my car was carefully run in. The oil is changed every 6 weeks regardless of mileage......yes I am a very fastidious owner. My clientele demand/insist in being carried in spotlessly clean vehicles and one that are reliable. The service schedule on the Superb already has 6 stamped services!

In one of my old Mk1 Superbs i had clocked up over 350k before selling the car. That was over 2 yrs ago and the same car is still running sweetly.....that too had monthly oil changes etc and apart from normal wear and tear items and normal service items I never hd an ounce of trouble.

Have you had the car on a dyno , can you post the sheet??

Great news mate!

I'm glad your car is up and running again and that it didn't cost you a penny (except the inconvenience)

why ?

is it really worth having the car serviced 6 times in 17k miles

are trying to keep your dealer in business !

I was in a Skoda Mk1 the other day a 1.8 petrol with an lpg conversion 55 plate with 357k miles on the clock amazed were the only words i could use !

ps if you really do change your oil after 6 weeks and 3k miles can i have your old oil for my truck ! lol

On a Dynojet? go and get your money back, they are well known in the industry for reading high. There is no way in this day and age of quality control and ECU management you are going to get an extra 30HP from running in. In the old days of dodgy QC, carbies and points some motors were noticeably better than others and the odd motor even better again, not these days I am happy to say. Most manufacturers run their motors and if the HP is not withing specs it gets binned.

Nope not a dynojet, a dyno i use fairly often i know how it reads and how it compares to others

Show me a dyno sheet with a CR170 reading 170 horsepower for a start they are well know for producing between 185-190hp anyhow

My point is most people dont even bother to dyno the cars stock , then get them remapped by some gimp with a laptop and still dont bother getting them dyno'ed but simply repeat what the "mapper" says. I've been tuning cars for 20+ years including many years building high powered drag bikes , knowing how to run a car in properly DOES make a difference to the power they make , especially on modern diesels , they can take 25,000 miles just to loosen up with modern oils

FWIW both my Skodas are stock , really dont see the point in making a car like that more powerful

...knowing how to run a car in properly DOES make a difference to the power they make , especially on modern diesels...

So is there a better way than what's printed in the owners manual...?

So is there a better way than what's printed in the owners manual...?

If I could second that question... having owned our new Superb for just over 24hrs with the intention of keeping it for as long as possible... what is the best way to run it in?

It will on the whole be a low milage car so it probably won't help but whatever I can do to keep it sweet I'll try & do.

Thanks

Stef

Interesting site, although the risk associated with running in any engine incorrectly could be costly. This guy seems to know his stuff though, but then again you can't go wrong with the mfrs running in method... or can you?

I like the idea of changing the oil after the first few miles... although that could be mid-way between the dealer and getting the car home for the very first time :giggle:

Did it end up at the steelers at Marsh mills????,

They are the most expensive steelers going, if you get your car serviced there stop and find an indi thats VAT reg-ed, and only take it to Marsh mills for warranty work

SKIPPY....yes the car was done at plympton. The most useless and uncaring crowd around and so arrogant. Many collegeagues of mine have been stung and have taken their cars elsewhere....once bitten twice shy as the saying says.

I for a variety of reasons can no longer comment on this thread as the matter is now gone to legal and am taking them to court. Am with the solicitor again 2morro morning.

Needless to say with the cars that I own and operate this dealership and its sister VW stealership never get any work or sales and NEVER will.

I will comment at a later date regarding this stealership and its attitudes and the outcome of the legal proceddings. Needless to say SKODA UK are also involved. I say no more until the outcome. :smirk:
