DTD have been around a while, so I'd say it's safe to use them.

I have now used Drivethedeal for 3 cars over the years, MK V Golf GTI, Peugeot 207 GT, BMW 120D M sport, everytime I have found them to be brilliant. Effectively all they do is pass you on to the dealer, you then deal with the dealer directly including paying deposits, I will be placing an order with them probably today for a Skoda Superb Elegance estate.

In stark contrast to the local dealer I tried that can't be bothered to return my calls!

I have used them and would again.

Very good.

I wouldn't use my current one again ..... all will be revealed when I get the car!!

Sorry to post original post again. Thanks for replies,I still can't believe the savings to be had.Why I have paid full price for new cars in the past is beyond me.

But what we are forgetting is, if we stop using the skoda dealers, and they end up going under, like so many garages are at the moment, then where do we take our cars to when we have a problem. Main dealers can give up to 6% and still look after your car, and make a living. Would you get out of bed and work the day for nothing, this is what we are getting used to asking other people to do, but not prepared to do ourselves.

My main dealer gave me 6%, other skoda dealers local to me were offering up to 8%, this was because they knew they would never see me again, so when it comes to me visiting my nearest skoda dealer with a warranty issue, they get hit with tiny allowances from skoda uk, so it ends up costing them to diagnose your car.

To me this is the tescos issue, if we all go to the supermarket, what happens to the customer service and choice of a local shop, guess what, it goes down the pan.

Internet brokers can do it cheaper, but what about going into a local garage, talking to the garage owner ( like I did) and build a relationship, so when you have an issue with your car, you can be on first name terms, and enjoy the whole package. Cheaper is not always the best option.

Where do you think that these internet brokers source their cars from?? yes that's right normal dealers, they may not be YOUR local dealer, but they are someone's.

Many dealers will have you believe that there is little or no profit in selling new cars anyway, it's the s/h cars, servicing and part's that bring the money in, so if that is the case then you are doing them no harm anyway!

It's all well and good supporting your local dealer (if they are a good one) but not at any cost, they still need to be competative - i will leave that to the naive couple they go in and pay full RRP for a new car whilst also being stiffed on their part ex!

And how much hassle are you having through your broker. Your car has been in the country for 1 month an no info. You pay the price and take the goods, thats if your lucky.

DTD are excellent. I used them for my Superb Estate and I will use them again for my wifes Yeti in the new year. Service is email based, but to be honest I liked not having to actually go through the whole "walking into a dealer" process. I hate that anyway. You get a price and that's it. Pick it up when its ready... :-)

I saved about £3500 I think on my Superb..

I fully agree I have been getting a distinct lack of information, I have escalated this today however and have been promised this will change with daily updates - time will tell if this happens.

However with over £3.5K off the list price and £2.5K off the best dealer price you have to expect more hassle, the majority of mine has been down to the weather, so this would of been no different.

Yes the previous communication has left an awful lot to be desired, but others have has equally poor communication from their local dealer.

The ONLY thing I would change in future is the broker I went with.

Is that the dealer in Basingstoke? I tested the car at another dealer in Hampshire, got a price from that dealer and then went to Basingstoke just for a price - no test drive or any other hassle. They never got back to me! I tried online too (DTD, Broadspeed) and the deals were very good but I would not be first owner. Not disastrous (although there are insurance complications), so I placed an order but they couldn't fulfill it since their contact had used all their allocation. This went on for a few weeks, each time the price going up whilst still being unavailable. Incidentally, I don't blame the broker at all as I thought they were just as frustrated by this as I was. When the difference became about £1500, I went back to the original dealer and asked them if they could reduce their quote a little, which they did (I had previously not been asking them whilst the difference was over £2000 and I thought too great to bridge)...and I bought the car off them, so at least I have a local supplying dealer if things go badly wrong and hopefully I'll always get a nice courtesy car when it goes in too. Well, that's been my experience so far with other cars I've bought.

Shame really, as I had a car to sell which this time a friend wanted so I could buy a car without doing a trade in, so I wanted to try the broker experience.

My local dealer matched the DTD price anyway but i wouldve had no hesitation in using them if not , mind you with the lead times and demand as is it it seems selling these cars if the least of most dealers problems

I dont feel sorry for my dealer they get all the maintenance work out of me

I was a prime candidate for DTD. ie. straight sale. no trade in, etc and dealer could not get close although they claimed they were making no money out of me. I went with the dealer out of loyalty thinking that i would be deemed a valuable customer...( Bought 3 new cars in 4 years 2 Top spec Octy estates and the Superb ),, but they just treat each car as a unit and the customer as a statistic these days. Due to Skoda's recent success it is becoming a "take it or leave it situation".

It is becoming easier to get a deal on a Merc than a humble Skoda!!!

Try ukcarbroker.co.uk

Hi, I was very tempted to try a broker but in the end.... yes we paid more than DTD, Broadspeed or some of the others but the difference was about £500-600. This I felt (having never bought a car via a broker) was in the whole scheme of things an extra cost worth paying for peace of mind and security. We buy lots via the internet but when talking of over £20k its still a little concerning.

Judgingby some comments at the moment it looks like Skoda may be offering less incentives (ie. much smaller discounts than 3 or more months ago) probably because their factory is full. Considering though I felt our lead time was in the realms of perfectly acceptable for a car made to order. (its all about supply & demand...)

Ok I'm out of pocket but I feel that we've been treated very well by the dealer, kept up to date - in particular delivery (which was 2 months earlier than first indicated - actual lead time was 14 weeks), we had questioned answered quickly & well nearly every time.

I hope this continues with after sales & servicing. So far a  to Claybank, M/cr. (& Rob in particular - thanks).

Regards

Stef

I think this shows the difference in dealers, my local dealer wasn't great IMO.

In comparison drivethedeal took order, passed to the Skoda dealer they deal with, the Skoda dealer phoned me directly to confirm my order and options, finance person phoned the following day to get that all sorted.

So far very positive experience , the dealer is 40 miles from my house, given the £3100.00 I can deal with this. Car is brand new factory order and does not require pre registering with the dealer. They said expect end of feb/early march.

I will let everyone know and keep up to date with my order, I have used drivethedeal several times so I'm not too worried :smirk:

After finding out that Skoda are doing VAT free deal I have now got a quote and although slightly dearer than internet broker I am ordering car off them. Thanks for all replies and views on internet dealers and Skoda dealers.Only problem now is the long delivery date for car.

  • 1 year later...

Hey guys,

I'm going to test drive the superb 2.0TDi CR next Saturday. Very possibly will place the order soon or even the same day if a good deal can be negotiated.

I'm in Scotland so will try local dealers before the DTD. The DTD prices I've got is 700-900 cheaper than the OTR+0%VAT offer. My bottom line is 500 pounds difference.

Which way is easier to do:

1, Get ~300 pounds off dealer's offer, to make it within 500GBP of the DTD deals;

2, Or ask for ~300 pounds free extras (such as Maxi-dot computer + spare wheel + lumbar support on S, or Front parking sensor on SE)?

Anyone had experience before with Edinburgh Chathams and Dunfermline Chathams?

If not successful will go via DTD B)

Thanks!

I used autoebid and found them cheaper than Drive the Deal.

Hassle free and v happy with service and most importantly - the car!

Had my last 3 cars from DTD. Quick, cheap, efficient and great comms. Say no more.

Except you aren't buying off the internet. You are giving your details to a company who pass them on to 'their' dealer. The dealer then calls you, goes through the motions with you and takes the deposit.....the same as you would if you were sat in the dealer with the person on the phone.

I got mine from DTD and for the nearly £5k savings off the £0 discount any of my local dealers were offering it was a no brainer. I also picked the car up from London so the car and money was handed over face to face just the same as you would with a local dealer and i was able to inspect the car exactly the same as if i had being paying £5k more.

If local dealers can't offer discounts then that's there lookout....they soon make it back on servicing, parts, part ex's and people with more money than sense to haggle.

Are they always from somewhere near London, I mean the DTD skoda dealers?

As I'm in Scotland so travelling can be expensive and inconvenient. It can be easier though if the dealers can inform me the exact car arrival date a few weeks in advance so travel arrangements can be easier for me.

How long in advance they can confirm that normally?

I think they've changed from London now. they deliver anyway for free if you wish.
