stuby aerial

Featured Replies

All your car needs is some of the white wrapping on the bonnet and it would look newer than the surrounding unregistered Skoda's!

Am liking those Neptunes on a non FL Octy :)

EDIT: Actually, are those Neptunes?

Edited by Ciderspace

I fitted a current Polo antenna to mine when I got it in August. Had previously used it on the Fabia. I like the look of it personally, not too short that it looks daft, and reception is good enough for what I need.

Best removal method I've come up with is to unwind it as far as possible, then lay it flat, so it's parallel with the roof, then pull the aerial backwards. Should pop past the retaining point without *too* much difficulty then! I do agree there is a bit of a knack to doing it

Cheers,

Steve

What is the P/N on this new antenna?

I fitted a VW Sharan stubby aerial bought off eBay. No degregation in reception since all Yetis have two aerials anyway - one in the rear window and the one on the roof. I would imagine the Octavia is the same? Both are based on the Golf V or VI and you do not get Golfs with beesting aerials at all. For some reason Skoda seems to think beestings are fashionable or look good or something hence fitting them over and above the rear window aerial.

Not any more on the Yeti!

My standard aerial is miles shorter than Loadwine's bee sting one.

Aye, but yours is still double the length of mine Mike!

I just ordered this one from the bay, juries out on the reception as I haven't got it yet.

Will update as and when as it is a cheap alternative to the VW Sharan stubby.

Edit: Had a go at removing mine today prior to receiving the 'stubby' - no real problem and ironically enough the reception was still excellent with no aerial attached! :S

Ok, update as promised, a bit later than expected as the aerial only arrived today, due to Christmas and severe weather conditions.

Anyway, fitted it in approximately 30 seconds and......................

Off topic slightly and apologies in advance, what make the roof spoiler, friend of mine had some issues with an OEM version so ordered Milotec, don't know if he fitted or not as yet?

On the aerial side I have to agree with earlier posts on antenna length, I personally am not convinced by 'stubbies'

I knew I would get questioned on the roof spoiler so no bother, it is in fact OE, iirc it was 105 quid from the stealer and a local firm to me painted and fitted for 60 quid. I personally think it should be standard on the vRS like a colour coded grill!!!

I have heard of issues of fitting to the FL Octavia due to the space between the boot and the roof being different so it rubs.

Regarding me 'stubby' not sure I understand why you need convincing??? Are you not sure if they work or you just don't like them? B)

Thanks for the note on the spoiler, interesting...On the antenna my interest is both, I work for an antenna manufacturer so have a little understanding of how they work....

This is fitted to my Snow Monster:

Mike

Same as fitted to my Octavia VRS that I collected yesterday

Ok guys, another update, and not a good one.

Took the car out today and in certain places (where the standard aerial was fine) I completely lost the reception! :'( So, what to do, I was wondering if it would be possible to spur from the aerial cable into the rear heated window???? Or is there an alternative? Apart from the bin!

I have one of those stubby ones also, looks good, but reception is at least halved!

oops thought you were being a bit premature to say reception was perfect

My stubby stays in the garage - just comes out for show really

I looked at this previously, not sure about the ball at the end tbh.

It does look good on, especially as the latest Octavias now have a stubby as standard

Stubby Update

I've now gone for a Polo one - radio reception is unchanged from the standard antenna

Unlike those rip-off 65cm ones from flea bay

Agree. The 65cm one I had from a Sharan had useless reception. What is the part number for this one? OR the shop you bought it from please?

I've had mine (parts4euro) on for just under a year. No loss of signal for me.

Not all stubbies are equal.

I've had the Polo one for a while. In fact just after it came out as there's a VW dealer near here and I passed, saw it and thought it was worth a try

So on the last Fabia and this Octy it's been fine - I don't listen to the radio an awful lot, but when I have the reception's been as good as the standard one.

Yes, some might argue it's not a true 'stubby', but I think it looks good and that the very short ones look a bit daft IMO. But most importantly it's massively better looking than the huge standard one :D

Cheers,

Steve
