1.2 litre petrol turbo

Featured Replies

Hi all. I'm thinking of buying a 1.2 litre turbo petrol Octavia. I've never had a turbo before and so I googled the topic . It seems that turbos require more frequent servicing and oil changes, therefore expensive to keep. Does anyone out there have a 1.2 litre turbo petrol Octavia? I would really welcome your comments and experiences. I'm after economy, not speed, and I would describe myself as a "steady" driver; when on motorways I drive to the limit and take my time on ordinary roads. Thanks in advance!

I think the 1.2 litre engine is quite new in the Octavia.

There are several threads in the Yeti forum as this engine is more popular on this model.

A few complaints about higher than expected fuel consumption...

Have the 1.2 tsi in the Fabia and it really shifts has the power to surprise a few cars, have driven it in the Yeti as well and would have no concerns about performance in the Octavia beats the old na 1.6 any day, fuel economy is a little disappointing about 43mpg in the Fabia but it does seem to be improving as the engine runs in and again is better than the 1.6 it replaces. Long runs with the 7th gear seem to achieve about 50mpg at 60 - 70 mph. Only thing is it is very quiet engine and you find yourself easily traveling faster than you think. To be honest other than the turbo it is designed fairly simply with only 2 valves per cylinder etc to reduce friction and cost I wouldn't worry too much about the turbo just let it warm up before giving it beans and drive gently for last mile or so before switching off.

I have the 1.2 Octavia.

It's a superb car and a really nice engine.

Engine noises are really low, the engine has a pretty good power. It feels like a 1.8 or 2.0 non turbo engine.

The fuel consumption is good, surely better than the 1.6 but I've found that if you want, it can be really economical.

On highway I normally achieve about 4.8-5 l/100km and if I think economy and drive accordingly I can achieve 4.1-4.3 l/100km.

Same goes for the city. If you drive it without thinking too much about economy it will do between 7-8 l/100km depending on how much start-stop traffic you have but you can achieve better numbers.

I can't really comment on servicing expenses as I have mine for about 4000 Km...
