I'm at Manchester airport waiting for a delayed flight, decided to clean my windscreen and lights when a mini cooper pulls up. Nowt special there till I realised I could hear the fan going, its -4 so I thought that was weird. Guy lifts the bonnet and puts some screen wash in just happened to go to my boot to put some stuff away and notice the steam coming out of the expansion bottle so I tell him that I think his car's overheating, at first he says its just water dripping off his scuttle panel till I put my hand near the cap and showed him that was where it was coming from, he was still in denial till I told him to check his temp gauge which turned out to above the red! He then thanked me and asked if he should put water in, told him better be safe than sorry and put some ready mixed anti freeze in from the garage he then asked if screen wash would do!

Now I'm no mechanic but even I would think something would be up if my fans were on and it was -4 outside first thinq I would check would be the gauge!

haha!

You'd think he would have noticed the gauge in the red!

Yup! lol

Seems airport staff expect diverted disabled elderly passengers to be able to climb into a massive coach! They have been stood around for 30mins apart from those in wheelchairs. Would of thought they'd find them a waiting room or something!

There is something about mini owners. I caught one putting screenwash in the coolant reservoir because "it's the same thing really, isnt it". When I pointed out that it wasn't, the guy didn't seem concerned at all.

Mini owners dont know what a car is , they think its a toy lol

It would of been a failed thermostat(common mini problem, ive done loads!) the problem with the mini is the coolant top up reservoir does look like a screenwash bottle, the correct fill up point is buried next to the cylinderhead! I hope he didnt top it up with cold water! lol. :)

Dunno lol he left before i did and didn't see him stranded anywhere so just maybe he made it :giggle:

Well the less MINIs there are on the roads the better anyway.... It's not a car it's a fashion accessory and an out of date one at that... In my opinion of course...

Lots of cars and lorries going on fire in the snow. Something in the cars must be freezing even if it isn't the coolant.

A friend had a lucky escape recently when her daughter put water in the brake resevior thinking she was topping up the washer bottle!!!!!!!!!

Hay, I nearly bought I Bini Cooper, when I was looking for a new car!

I still think it's better looking than the Fabia, (inside and out) and probably handle better round corners than a Furby. However, it's cramped inside, with a tiny boot, no spare wheel, and much more expensive.

I bought Fabia vRS instead and I'm still glad I did.

Think that's just indicative of the average motorist, rather than a general ownership trend of a particular brand. I know a fair few enthusiastic and knowledgeable Mini owners, just as I know some who just care about getting from A to B, and like using a Mini to achieve that. Pretty much like any marque really!

Yeah, the housings break up internally & jam the stat, you normally replace the housing & stat, mini have "updated" the housing! lol. I have had a few where its just been a failed stat though. :)
