fabia tank capacity

Featured Replies

hi guys -

just been looking at threads on how much fuel you can get in your tank and the reserve tank issue -

iv`e come to the conclusion there is no such a thing as a reserve tank - its just one big tank - the top is contoured so when you fill up there is always an

airlock as the end of the filler pipe is lower than the top of the tank - so in a warmer climate fuel expands and has somewhere to go -

if however you wish to put more in , press the screw on the inside of the top in the filler pipe to release the air and you will be able to get more in -

my question is bearing in mind what i have said what is the gross capacity of the tank - would love to know -

it'll be 45l at a guess.

thanks for that

I've got 48litres in mine on mine, probably could of got a little bit more in.

Mine clicks first time at about 36... Dont go past the first click lol.

I've put 53l in mine (ventectomized). And it wasn't entirely empty when I started, so I reckon the true capacity is something like 55l.

55 litres would be correct, I've had about 53 into mine as well...

The missus asked my to take her Fabia for a run last night "to make sure the battery's charged".

The fuel gauge was of course reading empty and the miles to go was on zero.

This here receipt from Morrisons says that I put 55.13 litres in.

its a normal 45 litre tanks with a 10 litre expansion tank

55 in total

Only 54.4 today. She's clearly not trying

I regulary fill up from empty (ish) to full and average 40L - just did some research and can only find ref to the Fabias having 45L tanks - do some have larger reserve tanks than others

Stated tank capacity is 45L, by the time you've filled the filler pipe and used the vent trick i've got 52 in on top of what was already in (it had just gone beep and put the fuel warning light on) so 55L would seem about right.

When my trip computer said I had 70 miles left I managed to squeeze 36 litres in mine. I have a Fabia Estate, so maybe the VRS is different?

I managed to do 436 miles so far on this tank :giggle: which I worked out be to be 54.21 mpg.... WITCHCRAFT!!! The trip computer still says I have 65 miles to go too  Wish I bought a Fabia sooner.

I can't stand filling up that often and I always run from full to empty with venting the tank. Just checked my spreadsheet and I normally put 52 to 54 lites in it. Max so far is 54.79L and I covered 642 miles on that, which works out at about 53 mpg. Can't fault it

I've had 58 L after running on fumes then filling the expansion tank too.

Makes a £90 fill up a real possibility. Eek!

54ish was my max too, still only pulled 440 miles from it :(

Well I guess there is advantage of "normal" Fabia TDI PD 100 not vRS after all :D On a regular basis I am 720 to 750 miles per tank. Usually somewhere between 52 and 54 litres of Diesel. After the low fuel light is on I can do easy 65/70 miles.

My lifetime average is 63.13MPG. Few years back in south of France with easy 60/62 MPH on a hot day in July I've managed 74.6MPG over 450 miles trip. My personal best.

I tried to do this vent trick last night, but it was too dark to actually hit the lever with the nozzle and keep it there so just gave up. I managed to put 38 litres in though, which has given me a range of 530 miles. If I keep this up, over a course of 7000 miles I'll spend about 800-900 pounds on diesel. In my old Colt CZT which I have just sold, 7000 miles of motoring would have cost me 1300-1400! Then there's the fact I won't need new tyres every 7000 miles too.

Fabia FTW!!! :sun:

Those are figures I could only dream of, the highest I've ever achieved was 55MPG in the middle of the night. I think I need to keep off that go faster peddle.

You are correct, the best mod for MPG anyone could do is FREE, it doesn't cost anything.... you just need to do "right foot mod" :D

I guess my "racing" days are over with the prices of diesel....but now I have "invented" new game to keep me busy. MPG game:) It is great feeling to go to the pump every 6 weeks instead of every other week. Last year I've been only 9 times to the fuel court....for the whole year. It pays to drive for MPG, I never been honked on the motorway, just stay in the left lane and let all the racer pass you. If you drive under 200 miles trip, the difference in time is no more than 20 min. but the difference in MPG is huge.

i put £65 (46 litres) in last friday, went to a brisky meet and a drive, on 350miles and still on half a tank :) , idsay i would do 500 miles to this tank

I agree, I used to have a PD100 Fabia Estate which was defiantly better. Having said that my average since I have owned the car is 46.84 mpg over 38000 miles, of which I would say 85-90% of that is A & B roads, up and down hills in stop start traffic and short distances, so very little on Motorways/Duals. My best was last year in a 3000 mile European trip on which I averaged a brilliant 66.75mpg, 3 up in a fully loaded car driving at sensible speeds.

I believe that If I had a better mix of roads/motorways in my daily driving I'd be another 10 mpg better off, so not really far off a PD100's mpg. :giggle:

You pushing it in here Karl

On a serious note I do believe that under the right conditions, weather, long run on a very steady speed, right wind direction and mainly flat surface 85/90MPG on 100PD it is possible...now the vRS is a whole new ball game :giggle: Too much temptation for the GO pedal

I have to agree, the vRS is just far too much fun to drive to get it's true MPGs to shine through! That said, I'm managing around 51mpg on a mixture of town and country road driving with the odd bit of zoomy zoomy :giggle: . I'm sure if I behaved myself a bit more I'd be up around 55.

I hope this isn't too much of hi-jack since we're on Fuel Tanks here but does anyone have a problem filling up if they let the tank get too low? Fuel light usually comes on with about 70 miles left on range but if i let it get to 40-50 miles left, the tank seems to airlock and even just trickling the fuel in still makes the pump click off every few pence!

I now just make sure I fill up before it gets that low but after reading this thread, I wondered if anyone else had similar problems or if it's just my car being odd as usual.
