Moving Xenons

Featured Replies

A neighbour has commented that the Xenon lenses turn within the headlamps, even when the lights are off. He delights in telling me that car's "eyes" swivel as I drive out from the carport at the side of my house, even at less than walking pace!!

I cant prove it of course, as I cant see the lights when sitting in the drivers seat.

I guess I need to get someone else to sit in the car & turn the steering wheel as I stand in front of the car to check...... frought with danger I know!!! :S

Hi George,

the headlights should rotate slightly depending on speed and steering angle. The fogs however don't move just illuminate on the side your turning or indicating into, and that's up to 24mph. Above that speed corner fog is inactive by law/directive.

Seat heating should be seat base and lower back; basically there's two electric blankets under the seat coverings (possible one has failed). Regard the oil that should read from 50 deg C, so yes a warranty job as you suggest in both cases unfortunately.

Regards,

TP

There was confusion over the oil temp reading a while ago in the Octavia forum. The conclusion everyone came to was that the oil temp will only be shown if your car is set to variable servicing. If set to fixed then the three dashes will be displayed at all times.

Many thanks, Ian - I think I do recall something about that, and mine is set to fixed servicing. I think we set it to fixed based upon my relatively high annual mileage which was predicted to be about 20-25,000 miles PA. I've now done nearly 16000 since end April, so it's bang on target.

And I think some new front tyres are about to be required pretty damn soon. What mileage are others getting from their footwear? For some this question is an impossible one, if winter wellies have been worn!

It is quite interesting to see the headlights and the fogs etc doing their thing. I had my SM for quite a while before I was able to do some night driving but as there are a lot of quite tight T junctions and narrow country lanes and not to mention a few hump back bridges around my area it is quite fun watching the lights follow the road. At first I did not realise what was happening I thought these lights are really good. On the first HB bridge which is on a bend the lights followed the road perfectly, the effect is most noticeable when you straighten up or drop onto level ground, so a big thumbs up for the lights.

Chris.

I have finally noticed mine! I triggered the switch in Maxidot on and off, while standing still and the engine running, along with one or two other things you can switch - and when I drove off it was noticeable that the lights were actually "cornering".

Needless to say I spent the next 25 miles of the journey to and from the 'local' co-op swinging round corners far too sharply and quickly!

And so I can confirm that they work, that they are very effective and responsive, and that the certainly turn through an extensive arc! They seem to work down to quite low speeds, too, and often will work alongside the fog lights too.

Whilst at that Co-op, I had my first experience of being accosted by a potential punter for Skoda. He was a BMW 3 Estate owner who was well impressed and reckoned that the Skoda offered so much more that the car he had!!

I have not got my Yeti, quite yet, but if this is what the Xenons do then all I can say is 'Bloody Marvellous'

Also I have to suggest that this, and cornering fog lights, is excellent value for money as you have to pay a huge sum for this feature as an 'option' on a VW or Audi!

Pity though that it has taken 30 years + to take up on a French (Citroen) development.

So does mine.....however......when in auto the headlights seem to be on all the time, and it was sunny this afternoon...Why??? :wonder:

My current Audi A5 has 'auto' headlights and you can, in the Audi version of Maxidot, adjust when the 'auto lights' come on between early, normal and late.... Perhaps yours are set to 'early'.

.... or are you maybe (not wishing to 'teach grandmother to suck eggs') getting them mixed up with the DRLs?

When in auto, the lights dont just come on when it gets dark.

If the wipers are on for 2 mins, then the lights come on and dont go off again until the wipers have been switched off for 8 mins.

If you drive above a certain speed then the lights will come on, and stay on until your average speed drops below a certain level (cannot remember the values).

Hi

A query about the so-called moving headlights! Up till now I have assumed that this refers to the cornering fog lights which are a delight.

Then today I got to thinking, as I sat mesmerised as the headlights danced their double strabismic tango on the wall in front of me when I fired things up.

Are the actual HEADLIGHTS supposed to wibble about round corners? Or is it JUST the foggers? My headlights do not appear to move in the slightest, apart from their Highland Fling at the start!

(And another.....my BUM isn't warmed - only my lumbar region, and I do like hot cheeks. Warranty thing this.....)

(And another.....my oil temp doodle doesn't....more warranty.)

(and one more....snow on yer backside causes the reversing noises to have a wee fit!)

(and finally.....how I wish, oh - how I wish wish wish that the steering wheel was heated, yeah!)

All the best, one and all, even the Mods of old, for a great New Year, with loads of happy motoring, economy, comfort, reliability, great craic on here, and of course, Snow Chains and Winter Tyres to you all, with clean Xenons, and dimmed interior Ell Eee Dees too.

Find a foggy day and then you will really see the headlamps do their dance ! ( brings a smile to my wifes face every time we fire the Yeti up in the dark !!)
