Not sure about the Fabia but on the Octy 2 the pipe connection at the rear of the car in the vicinity of the CD changer is prone to popping apart in freezing conditions.

There have been several posts about the phenomenon so would be worth doing a search,.

Hello

As with all MK 1 Fabia VRS they are prone to rear washer becoming non-operational during a cold weather spell.

This usually is due to washer-pipe connections freezing and popping apart.

One connection is in engine bay on right-side (looking-in) near bulk head/ fire wall (low down.)

Another connection not so easy to get at, is inside tail-gate trim, so tail-gate panel has to be removed.

This tail-gate trim is held on by fasteners which are very strong, and quite a-lot of exertion will be required to remove. (pop-in fasteners, no screws involved)

Look for water in wheel well in boot for tell-tale separation of pipes, also water trickling down (when in engine compartment.)

When this happened to me I hacked a hole in tailgate trim and covered it with homemade panel held on by a self-tap screw.

You'll understand why, if you need to remove this tail panel.

I will ask, are front washers working as normal.

Good luck.emoticon-0148-yes.gif

Hi

Thanx a million for that, it was as you had said, the connection by the bulkhead, it had popped apart, bit akward to get at with pipes in way but managed to get two hands to it and push back together, ....All the best for New Year............... :cocktail:

Your most welcome, rgf897vRS, and I return the same likewise.

Oh! incidently, I chopped off the 2 connections in the front, and slid a rubber pipe over each end and with a couple

of plastic ties made the job more secure and permanent.emoticon-0148-yes.gif

I had this yesterday. The pipe near the bulkhead had come apart so popped it back together no probs. but unfortunately no water! I then thought to check the jet, it's easy to remove. This is blocked and I have tried all sorts to unblock including pins, brush bristles, soaking in warm bleach and limescale remover. I cannot blow air through the jet so I assume it's blocked? Any other tips? I assume that a new one will have to come from a Stealers but that's the other side of town?

Hello campagman

Assuming your washer bottle is full, does the rear washers work OK? this would eliminate washer-pump failure.

When front washer operated can the washer-pump be heard working, (not sure if separate pump)

If you remove washer pipe from front washer jet/s and operate washer-pump, is water coming through the pipe.?

If water is coming through OK, remove jet/s and give a thorough good probing.

The washer jet-ends are fine/ narrow, as water (as you know) is delivered in a fine spray.

Try attaching one jet at-at-time to washer-pipe and test for water delivery.

If still no results, invest in 2 new replacement jets.

Good Luck.emoticon-0148-yes.gif

NOTE.

You will probably have to remove wiper arms using a wiper-arm tool as they tend to corrode badly.

The Fabia only has 1 pump, so if the front washers are working, then obviously the pump is fine.

It is very common for the pipe connections to come apart. There are 4 places it comes off. It is explained in this post. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/93030-rear-washer-jet-issues-help/page__p__1150674entry1150674

The most common of those is at the bulkhead. However I have had it split behind the rear seat once before. There is an even better explanation of them on page 2 of that thread. Here

I'd advise NOT to reinforce the connection at the bulkhead. It's the easiest connection to get at and reinstate so it's better to let it pop off there than elsewhere - and it causes less water damage. Fortunately the connection by the rear seat seems to be the least likely to break with a standard set-up...

Thanks Giandougl for your reply but the front washers are working fine, it's just the rear jet that was blocked. Anyhow I had another good go at it today and I can now blow air through the jet, I haven't fitted it back on the car yet. I'm not 100 % sure though because no foreign object of any sort came out of the jet so whatever caused the blockage could be still in there, I've just moved it out the way a little.

Sorry to go a little off topic... firstly, my rear washer is the same, will have a go pulling it out tomorow, but a couple days ago, my front washers stopped working, at the same time, what could have happened? It's +7 outside, not cold enough for ice...

Mine leaked after reconnecting, and the plastic washer-pipe had hardened,

so would have had to snip off original connections anyway,

so as said, snipped off connections, pushed rubber-pipe over each end, job done.( approx 3 years ago now)emoticon-0148-yes.gif
