VRS is now on VAT free offer

Featured Replies

Maybe what the dealer is adding is the difference between 17.5% and 20% Vat on the delivery charge. That would seem about right.

It wouldn't make a difference if he'd done that as the VAT is payable in full on the delivery charge anyway. I reckon the delivery charge would come to £510 inc VAT (£55 for first registration and £125 road tax) making up the £690 OTR charge (OTR price - RRP price = OTR charge)

Whichever way it's calculated, I take the offer to mean no VAT on the RRP of the basic car which is £2595 according to the brochure. Whether you take this discount off the RRP or the OTR price, assuming the OTR charge is fixed at £690 of course, it still equates to the same figure of £13665 for the basic car. Then you have the VAT of your options to discount on top of that which gives you the final figure.

What confuses me is that my dealer says that VAT is payable on the delivery charge and that it isn't as simple as taking the £2595 VAT on the RRP as this includes the VAT (or some of it?) of the delivery charge which is payable.

I'd feel much happier if I knew how he came to his figure of £15265.00 rather than my calculation of £15256.67? I can interrogate ask him (again!) tomorrow morning when our Octavia goes in for new tyres but I'd rather find the answer elsewhere instead of being a pain over the sake of 9 quid!

It's just the principle that matters to me, not so much the difference in cost.

PM replied to, thanks!

I saw my dealer again this morning and went through his entire breakdown of how he got to his final figure. Turns out that he'd simply mis-read one of the prices on one of the options and that's where the difference was. Nice to know I was right in the first place!

At the finish then we've agreed on our final total and I managed to get the GAP insurance for £200 too

Didn't bother with the Autoglym packakage as it's a waste of money in my opinion but views are very varied on this so I'll leave that for another thread somewhere. He wanted £200 for this but I'd rather pay a professional detailer to do the job instead if I feel that way inclined and it would cost me less than this I'm sure.

It's worth noting that Skoda are still doing their 2 year fixed servicing plan for £299 plus £100 back in vouchers which expires at the end of January. As it would cost over £400 in this 2 year period to have the vRS serviced according to the service department then it was a real no-brainer to take it out. Again, this is something that can be discussed on another thread somewhere.

Whilst I was there, I found out where my car was and have been told I get to pick the car up next Tuesday!

Registration chosen aswell but not much choice as all of them on offer were the same except the last two letters.

I decided to cut costs and apply the protection myself. I asked the dealer not to wax it, but he said he had to do it. I therefore had to purchase a special wax remover to clean it off - which took longer than applying the protection.

You're right about this being a waste of money /rip off. My Brother used to work in a dealership and told me they used to buy the kit in to do the prep at about £25 a go then charge the customer £200-300 to have it done..........! :giggle:

Supaguard paint protection or similar is a ripe off ..my son is in the trade and bought a kit several years ago for £20 we did 3 cars with it and I still have the kit today and still enough for another car

Kitchens agree with your comments on the protection. We had it on one car and it seemed to do very little. Better spending on another factory extra for the car :giggle:

As much as i don't want to fuel opinions over whether it's worth it or not as I do think it belongs in another thread, it's good to think I made the right decision with this 'Lifeshine' or 'Supaguard' or whatever you call it.

GAP on the other hand is well worth the money as long as you can get it for a good price. To think how much I'd be out of pocket by on a brand new car if the unthinkable happened to it, it's small change for huge peace of mind.

I saw my car at the dealer this afternoon as I was driving past on my way to pick my young son up. I just had to stop by for a moment to take a closer look and I've got to say it looks the dogs danglies! It looked so much better in real life but I'm so pleased I didn't choose the tempo red seat trim, even if it had been an option at the time of ordering, it just wouldn't look right IMHO. Must've only been delivered this afternoon as it wasn't there this morning when I was in to get new tyres on the Octy.

To stay with the thread topic for a moment though, I wonder if there'll be a surge in uptake on the vRS with this VAT free offer?
