A few night shots in London

Featured Replies

Hi,

I thought I'd post these up for your C&C's. I haven't really used my camera much at night, I only ever use it for motorsport, boats and animals so haven't had much practice in low light. I used it quite a bit over Christmas indoors and the photos were quite noisy so I should have turned the ISO down a bit really I suppose.

I'm quite pleased with these though, what do you think? All were shot with my Nikon D5000, Nikon 16-85mm VR lens and my new tripod. Shot using shutter priority.

using tripod (unless you have a steady hand or good with a monopod) and long shutter speed, great shots.

Setting the shutter speed (so the amount of time the shutter is open for) for a longer period, so setting it to 2 seconds will hold the shutter open for 2 seconds, capturing everything that happens over that period of time. You do of course have to compensate for the extra light hitting the sensor by making the aperture size very small and lowering the ISO.

nice. think i will wait until i buy a tripod to do those shots........pretty essential. What shutter speeds/iso/aperture settings did you use?
