Anyone moved from an octy 2 to a new fabia vrs

Featured Replies

Hi

Went to my local dealer to have a look at a vrs today. Unfortunately they had not got one just wondered if anyone has moved from an octy to a vrs. I will be going for the estate due to need for decent space just wondered how people have found the vrs space wise also what is the service interval for the vrs?

The hatch and the estate are both the same length, so when you open the boot the space behind the rear seat is the same. What you get with the estate is extra loading height, and even then compared to the octy2 the Fabia2 boot is tiny.

Father in Law went from a Octy 1 vRS, to Octy 2 vRS, then to his current Fabia sport, (Not vRS but same size), subsequently he has told me to never let go of mine as he finds the Fabia too small...although the Mother in Law likes the smaller size.

I moved from Octavia 2 1.6 Petrol and Fabia MK1 1.2 12v to Roomster 1.2 Tsi. I was looking for a Fabia 1.2 Tsi estate but my wife insisted on Roomster due to rear seats and rear door windows. Thank God i let her choose the car. Roomster's boot is bigger than Fabia's and boot's door is larger and taller too. The rear seats are moving forwards and backward and also have variable inclination up to 7° to the back, or completely to the front which let me choose the capacity of my boot space. Vario Flex is the name.

The Roomster shares components from the current Fabia (from b pillar to the headlights) and the previous Octavia (e.g. the rear axle) and that is the secret for the spacious cabin. I must admit that having two babies requires a big boot but the loss of boot space (less than moving to Fabia) is not competing the joy and the comfort of the cabin.

I must also admit that there is no VRS Roomster yet and probably all the above leave you indifferent.

i had an mk2 octy vRS(hatchback). Am now waiting on my fabia vRS hatch to be delivered. Had a look at the boot on a fabia vRS Estate and i honestly dont think the fabia's boot(estate) was to much smaller than the octavia (hatch).

in all fairness im surprised at the size of the hatch tbh. its really not to bad

I got a test drive in a hatch lined up on Thursday. I looked at the estate and it certainly has a decent amount of space, also checked out the superb and was very impressed.

Nope, Fabia estate is longer than the hatch by 254mm, so has a good bit extra boot space. The Octy hatch and estate are both the same length.

Superb is just enormous! Can't believe how much car you get for the cash!

I too am moving from an Octy 2 (vRS) to the new Fabia vRS and due to prams, buggies and wifes, will also need the extra boot space of the estate. Although it wont be Octy sized, I reckon it should be large enough for most day to day activities. And the boot in the estate is defo larger than the hatchback, and can travel 1mph faster

I've got an Octy VRS & the wife has a Furby VRS (both hatches). The Octy is massive, nearly twice as capacious as the 300ltrs offered by the Fab. The Fabia is pretty good though, miles better than something like the Mini. We've got 2 boys aged 2 & 5, the Fabia can take pretty large push chairs & a fair bit of luggage. It's not a lot smaller than the Golf we replaced. Lovely to park as well. I think if it was your only car & you had kids the hatch would be a bit tight.

Got a one year old girl so estate version will be what I will want. I had a fabia vrs mk1 and sold that to get the octy but I've always regretted it to be honest. While the octy is a very good car its not really fun to drive.

Someone will correct me if I have picked up the wrong data but I believe the boot capacity difference between the Octvia and Fabia estates is;

Octavia

605 ltrs seats up

1655 ltrs seats folded

Fabia

480 ltrs seats up

1460 ltrs seats folded

If you downsize you lose 125 and 195 ltrs compared to the Octy. I only picked up my estate fabia at the weekend so havent tried more than weekly shopping in the boot yet. Living in Cumbria I wanted a small estate as its easier to get around in the narrow lanes. I don't have kids though so don't need quite as much space.

Interesting comment re. the fun factor of Octy Vrs. Fab. as I was chatting about the same thing with the Mrs. only the other day.

I said that the Octy seems like a nice horse, you admire it, appreciate it & it makes you feel good. The Furby seems more like a little puppy. It's not the same quality of animal, but it's so effervescing with life that you can't help but love it & take it for a walk (drive) as often as you can.

I've just read my post so far & realise that I'm losing it, sorry...I'll get my coat...and go for a drive...in the Furby! :)

+1 I know where your coming from and tend to agree..................its briskoda, makes us all loose it in the end

Ive just chopped my Mk2 Vrs estate in for the new Furby Vrs....... the furby boot is much smaller however for a supermini it is pretty larrge for the class and offers good cabin space. Its best for just 4 adults whereas the Octavia would seat 5. The Octavia was great fun and more of a grand tourer - I drove to the pyrenees in mine last year. The furby feels more of a pocket rocket however i did prefer the feel from the steering wheel on the Octavia - the steering is a ta dtoo light. I love the smooth power delivery of the TSi motor whereas the VRs Tdi made my passengers carsick due to the dollop of torque ....... not run the tsi in yet but feels great taking things gently and Im sure will bve much more fun.... already prefer the DSG in traffic en route to work - wise move as I couldnt wait for months for another TDi motor

Could you post a pic? What mph you roughly getting? I've got a test drive on an estate tomorrow can't wait.

TBH is you move a lot of stuff, then youll see a massive difference

The boot on the Octy is hugely larger than the Fabia

We have both vRS's and the Octy gets all the trips to the tip and carries the 'Wardrobes'

Just a question here that i dont quite understand the logic of ? emoticon-0124-worried.gif

Having owned 2 previous Octavias (now on 3rd) & a Fabia, i dont quite see the logic on downsizing the boot for prams / buggies, surely the boot space in the Octy, even folding either the 1/3rd or 2/3rds is far greater than downsizing to a Fabia Estate. The only reason i can see for the change is to lighten the wallet on the cost of running the car, with the difference going towards funding the contents of the pram / buggy emoticon-0144-nod.gif

Cant see how to add an image sadly - wouldnt accept a facebook link - any ideas?

getting about 35mpg with fairly gentle driving however it is getting better day by day..... only done 580 miles from new so still very tight

Hoping to see over 40 on average - my VRs TDi Octavia only averaged 42mpg

No-one ever gets my logic :giggle:

I love my Octy to bits and for a family car it gets 10/10. Im a value for money kinda guy and a vRS enthusiast, so when the new Fabia vRS came out I had a test drive and had a long hard think. At the time though, there would have been very little difference price wise to buy a Fabia vRS Estate or a year old FL Octy vRS and so couldn't justify the Fabia.

WIth the VAT free deal however it makes the Fabia extremely good value for money and I was blown away by the performance on my test drive. As the wife drives a Qashaquia ( is that how you spell it?) loosing the space of the Octy won't be too much of a problem.

Also, most of my commute to work is motorway and so I average low 50's so I can't see the new Fabia vRS saving me any money when it comes to the fuel pumps, not for the first few months of 'getting used to it' anyway.

My biggest problem is the colour, still not sure what to order. To this day I haven't seen one on the road so I am quite hesitant to order a colour combination without seeing it in the flesh. Still not 100% convinced on the hatch/estate desicion either.

Hi new member here. I am currently driving Octy 1.8 TSI (sweet car) had it from new, 57 plate but wanting new car so went in to dalership in North East and ended up going for the Fab VRS, wont get delivery until April though. thats how long it takes to get here.

Hi Chris

I see you have winter tyres on both motors - what size wheel/tyre have you put on the Fabia?

How did the test drive go?

It amazes me how quick it darts off the line after driving a DSG passat estate for the last couple of days - much more sedate - mine is like a demented terrier!!

Still unable to figure how to post a photo.......!!! Im generally very techno-savvy but as I dont have a url for my photo cant figure it out - doh!!!!

get your self a photobucket account, then you can upload the photos to that, then they host the photos for you to post. dead easy and free

Hi Chris

I see you have winter tyres on both motors - what size wheel/tyre have you put on the Fabia?

Ive kept thewheels and fitted 205 40 17 Winter tyres...My local Wilco Motorsave charged me £40 to swap them

They will be putting the summer 205 40 17's back on in March....for another £40.

I ned to get some winter alloys for the wifes car next...Like I have on the Octy
