Octavia Scout Fuel Consumption?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

looks like a friendly place.

I am thinking about getting an Octavia Scout as it'll be perfect for my needs (I snowboard, windsurf, etc...) and the horrible roads in Greece. Skoda give a fuel consumption for the 1.8TSI ( Diesel aint allowed in Athens so I have to go for the Petrol model) of 10.2, 6.4 and average 7.8 l/100 (23, 36 and 30mpg).

What I'm wondering is what is the actual fuel consumption? Anyone here with a 1.8TSI who can inform me?

Thanks

Tony

Hi, I´ve just driven my scout 1,8 Tsi some 8000 k. My average at this point is 8.2 (in rather cold swedish winterconditions)

Thanks Monnae, that doesnt sound too bad. Had a Yeti driver with the 1.8TSi tell me he was averaging 10-12 l/100km on the weekend.

I have an Elegance Hatchback - not a Scout but it is a 1.8TSi

Just past 3000 miles old and I am averaging around 8litres per 100km mixed town/A road/ motorway

I'm curious, why is diesel not allowed in Athens? The 1.8 TSI is a great engine to drive, but definitely not the most economical. If good economy is a priority the 1.4 TSI is quite a bit more economical AFAIK and still powerful enough for safe overtaking.

IIRC it's because of Pollution Control. Private owners aren't allowed diesels & can only use petrol cars on alternate days; depends on last number of your number plate. Odd numbers one day, even numbers the next. Sector9 will correct me if i'm wrong.

Thats right... supposed pollution management... they reckon an unserviced diesel can be dangerous due to microparticle emissions.

As for the odd and even system, it just means most greek families have two cars (usually some small "cheap" thing as a second car) and the government makes more money :wonder:

Anyway, it doesn't seem to be too thirsty. If I wanted to go for something with great economy I'd most probably go for the 1.2TSI estate... but 4x4 and raised suspension are pretty useful.

And the Scout looks cool

I know ;) !

I currently have an Octavia 1.8 TSI 4x4 Estate (not Scout). The car has only covered just over 600 miles, but seems to give mid 30's MPG. I anticipate this will improve somewhat over the next few thousand miles.

I also had the same engine in a 2WD hatchback a few years ago and managed low 30's average in urban use and over 40 mpg at motorway speeds.

Well that doesnt sound too scary. Looks like I'm gonna have to check the finance offers then :)

Check out the figures in my signature.

It seems to me that the fuel consumption doesn't improve until you've covered more than about 10 miles. Maybe it's just so cold here at the moment?

I'm doing an average of 8,5-9 l / 100 km, my minimum was 7,2 l / 100 km (1.8 TSI Elegance Hatchback).

I've also done quite a lot kilometres on greek roads and did't find them so bad. But you people drive like crazy. :D

8-9 in city 6-7 in motorway.

Yeah, it took me a while to adapt to the driving after 10 years in the UK.

Well it looks like I'll be visiting my friendly Skoda dealer for a couple test drives early next week.

Thinking about trying the 1.2TSI (which was my original selection before I laid eyes on the Scout  ) and the Scout.

Had a longish run (for me) back from Bournemouth on Sunday with the mpg figure kept in view on the dash. Being a lot of M-way and dual carriageway I was able to set cruise control and, being in no rush, left it at about 58 mph most of the time. The mpg read out steadily crept up to 48 maximum for quite some while (petrol 1.8TSi running on supermarket 95)
