P D Recall Confused!

Featured Replies

I read that 70,000 pd engined cars may be recalled for "checking of fuel pump bolts" i am at a loss to where this pump maybe.

there is no fuel pump as such on a pd ,being unit injectors to each cylinder which i presume a individual pump is incorporated. and as far as i can tell there is no fuel lift pump either.

Im sure there is a technician out there who can put me right,or possibly give me an idiots guide to the workings of the Pumpe -Duse system

There are a total of six fuel pumps on a PD engine.

An electric pump in the tank which sends the fuel upto the engine bay

A mechanical pump incorporated into the vaccum pump that is driven off the camshaft (this is the one that is checked on the recall)

Four unit injectors on the engine (one for each cylinder)

Thanks Ross, most helpful ,always learning !!

Ross - while on the subject, are the two (fuel tank + vacuum) pumps both universal across the PD engine range? i.e. quicker PDs are simply bigger turbo's & injectors, not bigger fuel pumps down there too?

Had my bolts changed today...
