fabia vrs buying tips

Featured Replies

Hello all.

I'm new and am looking to buy a fabia vrs pd130 soon (hopefully very!!)

What I'm asking is are there any major faults or things to look for on a used vrs?

Thanks in advance.

check for a full skoda service history so you know the oil is the right stuff and its been serviced properly

rear door carriers tend to leak and leave wet rear carpets and doorcards

5 yrs or 60k they need new timing belts too

Hello all.

Just the usual, check cambelt change frequency (should be every 60k), and oil change frequency as this is pretty important. Check for uneven wear on the tires and front end knocking when you take it for a test drive.

Plenty of people are going to tell you about the rear doors leaking - all fabias do it (well you're lucky if yours doesn't) so its not really something that you need to check on. Possibly just check to see if the rear carpets are absolutly soaking wet.

The only main thing that there is likely to be wrong with the car is front suspension bushes, arb bushes, droplinks or wishbone bushes. All of which will be noticable by knocking or vague steering on the test drive. None of these are hugely costly to fix either.

Its all luck! It could be fine on the day, and then things start coming out when you have it a week a so.

Obviously do the research and check all you can but in the youve got to rely on your gut instict. Sometimes that not enough.

Ide say definatly the test drive is important. And ask him to drive past you or something or rev the engine so you can check for smoke / blue smoke etc.

Good luck :)

Take a good look at the condition of the seats.

Cambelt interval is FOUR years and 60k/75k miles (whichever comes first) - seems to have got longer mileage recently...

Check the clutch!

Foot firmly on brake, handbrake on, first gear, ZERO throttle - tickover is just fine, slowly lift clutch off floor and feel for any slipping... Only do this briefly, as it is a little strenuous on the clutch, but nothing even remotely like one bad launch.

If its good it'll be really pulling & front of car dipping down. If clutch is bad, it'll prefer to slip a bit. It helps massively if you know what a slipping clutch feels like! :giggle:
