Can anyone tell me brief guide on what to check when buying Fabias

Featured Replies

Hi people I really have decided i want a Fabia. A VRS and the SDI. I am going to look at a SDI tomorrow, and wondered could anyone please give me a heads up on anything which is common togo on these cars? anything in particular i should look for? It is a 2003 and has 94k. I plan on running until its done over 200k so could do with reliability. O yes its the comfort spec. I am viewing a VRS in next few weeks after i sort out my work car ( SDI)

Thanks

CK

Where is this so called buyer guide for the Fabia?

The same question gets asked week in & there is no 'Sticky' for it.

Unusual to be buying two cars... Check out the Fabia 1 listing - there's lots of these topics...

After reading about them has really put me off. It probably is one most unreliable cars i have come across these fabias. Loads to look out for on them :(

It's a forum where peeps generally only tend to post when something goes wrong, go look at any forum and it will be the same.

Very true!

Not many people bother posting "nothing interesting happened today, it was cold and the car started first time and drove well. Heaters were warm."

So far, mine has been all good, but I've only have it 3 weeks!

It's no worse in terms of reliability than any other car you can get for the price you will pay and in many cases it's far more reliable. I've lost count of the number of people in work who have recently had problems with their godawful Vauxhall's, Fords and Fiat's... I laugh at them and drive off merrily in a foul cloud of stinking black diesel soot as their engine management light illuminates yet again. Skoda's rule brother. Join us and be amazed. Haha!

They have problems but generally not that serious, because of the design even if the turbo goes it's a fairly easy fix. Probably more hassle cleaning out all the pipework! Other than that it's leaky door seals engine mount standard stuff

Can't agree more.

My Fabia has had 1 issue with a slight knock from the suspension in the 6 months I've owned it.

My old Peugeot 206 was going wrong every month!

Mine is by far the most reliable car i`v ever owned.

It was just reading around all PAS suspension Gear boxes etc. Currently have a Corsa and shes a beast does 1000 mile a week no problem. Just wanted something more up to date. Had saxo prior to the corsa and did 140k and ran like new ( Nether had anything major done to it). Reading upon the Fabia SDI thats the one I need for reliability, and reading reviews finding a lot with gearbox/pas issues. Suspension also come up alot but, i suppose suspension would be to costly.

New console bushes (most common thing to go) are about £150 fitted by a garage. Not bad in my books.

I`m on here a fair bit. PAS is a common fault, which is a bit pricey to fix, but thats the only major one i think is often popping up.

Gearbox issues?! News to me, i`v heard of a few people having issues when running big power on a vrs, but then theres lots more running as much, if not more power with no issues at all. On a standard car? I very much doubt you`ll see many problems unless its driven like a ****.

Suspension issues? The bushes go very quickly yeah, but replace them with the cupra ones and theyre good for the life of the car pretty much. Again not massive money either.
