Two Tone Alloy Wheels?

Featured Replies

Ok with my DIY alloy refurb project getting nearer and nearer I think my mind is making me think silly things are actually good ideas!

Bascially I have 2 sets of 16" Spiders, 1 of which is on the car and need serious filling and cosmetic repair and a second set in the garage which need a bit of a refurb to sort out some bubbling and light abuse.

Colour choices have been going around my head for ages (in fact it stretches back to May last year when i originally considered it but sold everything instead!).

One minute I want black then i decide that would lose the definition of the of the spokes if it's black so i was to keep a light colour.

Then i decide white works with red - but then it's too much hassle to keep clean

However my brain now think 2 colours are better than one.

I quite liked the idea of something like this

which would also make use of the Hammerite Smooth green I bought to do my 312's with

However one step further might be better. while maybe not enough steps to reach this

RedBlackSpokes.jpg

but perhaps do the entire wheel black then finish the sides of the spokes in a contrasting colour?

It's all pie in the sky at the moment but thoughts and opinons welcome

none red and green should never be seen!!!

nicest colour on red would either be a light anthracite colour or a gold!

Mono-colour!

Prefer the first image, although I think either solid Black or White would be better?

IMHO

Two Tone = GHEY (unless it's orange and silver for track use only) :giggle:

One colour = The way forward

That is all

I think the "sensible" set will be an entire gloss black but i'm just trying to work out what to do with the other set :)

Gold was a possibility

altough i think if i get white primer and see them finsihed in that it'll convince me white is the right choice

Thanks Baz

Haven't got a spare set of black wheels i could try for size have you ;)

Bear in mind these would probably be "track wheels" maybe the one colour to go forward with should be fluro orange

The Gold look well but not my cup of tea.

Option 1 or white....

...then I'll have them back from you :p

How about option 1 but with red on the rim instead imo

Seconded

All full white wheels (ford's frozen white) with red rim, like pic 1.

Photoshop that.

I prefer option 1, but not with green.

I'm intrigued to know what picture 3 would look like with silver on the inside of the spokes rather than green, or maybe anthracite.

Tacky Jackie

Could paint a "bright" colour on the inside of the wheel, whether it be white, flouro-frog or whatever. That would backlight the spoke shapes somewhat, allowing a darker colour on the spokes.

and as if by magic

YESSSS!

White with red rim. Lovely jubbly!!

Bit of tyre slick then. Done.

'scuse the expression but does a rim job really work with these wheels?

The spokes of the spiders sit proud of the rim where they meet the rim. Whatever you do you'll end up with lumps or bumps.

'tis all theoretical vindaloo just mock ups for fun

although in theory you can do anything with good enough masking!

well youve got 2 sets so if you dont like 1 youve got another to play with , personally id stick with a flat black i think, but the lip around the edge might look good in a colour of your choice emoticon-0148-yes.gif

exactly! the worst that can happen is I have to sand it all off and start again! :)

Mid-anthracite for the sensible set

Brilliant white for the track/2nd set.

I wouldn't mess about with other colours and pinstripes etc.

I can never understand why people choose such ourageous colour schemes for car parts

Gunmetal grey IMO.
