Featured Replies

Hi all

I have just bought the upper and lower front strut braces for my octy mk1 S3 braces im after finding out 2 things please....

1) where does the lower one fit too ?

2) what size bolts/nuts etc would be best to fit the upper one please

cheers

theres a guide somewhere... its on my list!!

There is holes in the subframe for the lower brace where you put the rivet nuts, dont know about upper one not fitted it yet

This a cheap mod? Easy to do? Make a big difference?

you need captive nuts and bolts to suit from either dealers or tps

When i fitted bottom brace i welded captive nuts in place then run a high tensile bolt up middle of then to put captive bit down on inside of subframe, then removed and fitted brace with nuts i got when i ordered brace,

Not decide if am going to use rivet nuts again or just weld some nuts onto bottom of strut towers yet, just in case i need to remove it at any point

ive bought a second hand one off an s3 so need to decide what nuts and where to get ...so skoda is it ? so you just ask for captive nuts?

I think the part numbers are in one of the links, take those as it'll be easier for you.

nah cant see any ?......

Part numbers:

8L9806529A bracket £57.18+vat

8N0199403B support £25.80+vat

N10467901 bolt-hexagonal head x2 56p

N90914701 rivetted cap nut x2 £3.46

Hope this helps

You need both the bottom two

Get bits from audi or thats what i did, power gun comes in useful to pull rivet nuts down in subframe but i would think it can be done with a big bar, just use a decent high tensile bolt to pull nuts down, dont want bolt snapping in nuts

For the upper one, you have to drill into the suspension turrets. So mark where the holes go, check and check again before drilling so you dont mess it up. You'll also need to get some appropriate nuts and bolts, as you have nothing to attach the brace too. Dont forget to put some paint over the freshly drilled holes to help prevent rust in the future.

Lower one is easier to fit as the holes are already there, when you get under the car you'll see where it goes.

Don't overtighten the bolts into the captive nuts or you've got an awkward mission to get them out

I found that when I rested the upper brace on the turrets the holes in the brace lined up with the little dimples in the turret. I think I used inch long m10 nuts and bolts but can't remember off hand.

No need to do that. for subframe. If you get all 3 parts The subframe just has open holes ready for the kit.

8N0199403B support £25.80+vat

N10467901 bolt-hexagonal head x2 56p

N90914701 rivetted cap nut x2 £3.46

you fit part N90914701 rivetted cap into subframe, offer up part N10467901 to frame(helps if another person can hold in place or use a jack), fit in the N10467901 bolt-hexagonal

bolts into support bracket and tighten up. This will tighten down into the captive nut and force it to spread outwards in the upper subframe and thus hold the support in place.

A few members have also used the captive nut and bolt for the top support bracket (8L9806529A bracket)as this way you can just drill a hole from the top and clamp down the upper strut bracket without messing under the wing trying to fit a nut to a bolt.

Yes washers would be good. if i recall you need 20 to 25mm Bolts as they have to go through the suspension support which is quite thick. Just make sure that they are not longer as they will come int ocontact with the spring

looking at some pics most people seem to have put the longer bit into the car so i may do this

Looks like next purchase after my h and r springs and anti roll bars
