Vrs standard Contis any feedback

Featured Replies

Replacing two tyres gone out of shape due to alignment issue.

Not overly impressed with OE Dunlops (Sport Maxx GT). Anyone got any feedback on the OE Continentals also fitted to FL VRS? Are they Sport Contact 2 or 3?

Cheers

Had contact 2 on mine - now replaced with the Contact 3's. You'll struggle to get the 2's anywhere. They are great tyres and last well.

Mine had 2's as standard from new. I replaced them with a full set of 3's a few months ago.

The 3 is a better tyre IMO. Its won a few magazine tyre tests too.

camskill have Cont 2's in stock assuming your running 18's?

The Conti 3's are a much better tyre than the 2's, have 14K about 4mm left so not doing badly on a slightly faster than average ;) cr170!!!

three's are great

dunlops are not recommended by Skoda due to the lego wheels

My Vrs estate came with cont 2's. Grip ok but way too noisy. Wouldn't buy them, think as far as tyre designs go they're getting on a bit. I've replaced my fronts with Michelin PS3, much better tyre IMHO.

I have conti's on the front 225/40/18 about 5mm left and there cuffin rubbish

I can spin the wheels in 4th

Changing for Uniroyal rain masters (Sports)

My car came out of the factory with Dunlop Sport Maxx - they were cr@p - soon got square wheel syndrome. Replaced them with conti SC3's and they're great. No problems at all.

I've got the Conti 2's as it's a brand new car. Not sure of them yet - the back end did step out on a bend the other day but I was taking it at about 10mph faster than my old mondeo ST TDCi (Goodyear F1 Asymmetrical) and in the wet too - ESP/Traction Control plus my car control skills brought it back into line no problems.

I think that some here are being overly critical of them - don't drive the car at 100% of your ability, keep some skill in reserve and you won't loose control or suffer from lack of grip/traction. Drive to the conditions of the road and not the power of the car. I drive BMW's at work and even with the Conti's on my, vRS out handles them dramatically.

Don't forget that you're talking about summer/all year tyres in a winter situation. Either modify driving style or buy dedicated winter tyres and you won't have any issues.

I'll be sticking with the Conti 2's unless I have a fault, it's simply too expensive to change them for new tyres when they're brand new and not damaged.

That said, when the time does come to change then I'll be thinking long and hard about tyre choice - Goodyear F1's are the ones I have been using for years now and they're fitted to the works cars and they seem to be really good in most conditions.

Thanks guys. Two replacement Contis will be fitted next week. Hopefully that and revised geometry settings will sort out the problem.

Just reading Rob-e's blog on Pistonheads last night so good to hear of his experiences. If I can get these problems finally sorted then I might be inspired to go for a remap and some other 'minor' mods. Great looking motor by the way mate.
