NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO emoticon-0106-crying.gif

Ivor is sick, please pray for him emoticon-0106-crying.gif

This afternoon, I went to a shop to pick something up, was goon about 10 mins, came back, unlocked him, got in and started him up only to find the Bolero unit is not working.

Its slow to turn on, the volume doesn't work and the volume bar doesn't change on the display. There is no music on the radio or from the CDs', the 'phone' functions are not working either.

Any chance of a whip round for him???? emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

poor old ivor!

harry says get well soon :)

as for the whip round, let's hope your dealer whips round and fixes him up pronto

Thanks Clive.

Went the the local VW dealer and they said they couldn't help and sent me to a Mazda garage emoticon-0104-surprised.gif

Hi Mac,

emoticon-0106-crying.gif to hear your Monster is feeling under the weather; have you tried pulling the related fuses to do a computer style reboot :wonder: an off chance it might work.

Regards,

TP

As TP mentioned, taking of the 12v off the unit and leave it for a couple of minutes should be able to reset the unit.

I dont know whether the Bolero also has a possibility to do a restart by pushing a couple of buttons at the same time, as the Columbus.

Otherwise you should try it that way.

Does Ivor have a sound system?

Scarlet passes her best wishes to Ivor

Hi Macdemon

Sometimes just leaving it along will do wonders. The gremlins sometimes visit, and turning everything off, leaving for a while can sort it out.

Happened a few times with my BMW's and my Octavia.

Failing that, pull the fuse. On the Columbus I can press both <> keys and the i key and it will reset my Columbus, which is even more of a computer than he Bolero, but I don't know what the combination is for the Bolero.

Have you tried posting in the ICE section on the forum?

Mike

Hi MacD

Sorry to hear of your problem - try the "kill the power" reset first. If that doesn't work, try " kill your dealer" next!

I'm almost 100% sure this will be cured by either a "stop, leave the car for a few hours, and then turn on the Bolero again" or pull the fuse and then install it.. Your radio is a small slow computer which sometimes has a "hickup"..

I experienced the same thing with my Columbus last weekend, and a quick "ignition off, key out, lock the car via key fob, leave it for a few minutes, and then unlock, start" sorted it...

We sometimes get in cars where the radio won't come on, info will not show in Maxi Dot when the ignition is turned on/engine is started, and a "pull the fuse, and then put it back usually solves it" Pretty frustrating, as it's no real "fix", but in 99% of the cases, it will not happen again..

Hope you get it sorted!

Thanks for the kind reply everyone.

Nice to know you all care enough to reply or suggest something, Ivor wanted me to (cough) thank all of you.

He's been in tha garage all night, so if it't not working normally this morning I'll try the fuse idea. Where will I find the right fuse to pull>>

(saves me digging out the manual)

If that doesn't work he's booked in with a Skoda dealership for a cursory investigation as they have no courtesy cars at the moment......................I don't want that Mazda dealership anywhere near Ivor emoticon-0120-doh.gif

Not after than snobby looking cow there looked down her nose at me...(they had a Porsche next to the service desks. I'm not a fan of Porsche.......waste of money and I aspire NEVER to own one emoticon-0119-puke.gif

Drove Ivor this morning and he's no better.

Need to try the fuse idea and if that doesn't work then it's a trip to the dealers emoticon-0106-crying.gif

Noooooooooooo !!!...poor Ivor matey !.......mine might be joining you soon as just had a cd inexplicably pause for no reason on the columbus, so took the disc out stuck it back in and so far been OK so hope im not getting germs too !

I blame the weather meeself !

The Beasty commiserates also - hope it gets sorted quick.

Suggestion from Kevin as his volume control is 'temperamental' on switch on at times.

I always leave the radio on just using the ignition to control it. Sometimes when I start the car the volume is low or won't respond tuned to my usual Radio 5Live 909Mhz.

I select a different station of the six displayed presets, usually Radio 1 or Classic FM; this results in the volume level coming in normally.

I then revert to Radio 5Live and, hey presto, normal volume level resumed.

Why or how this is I really don't know but it works. ;)

Worth giving it a try with Ivor I'm sure.

Bit confusing - my manual says there are two versions of the fusebox (next to the battery in the engine compartment).

Version 1 has Audio Amp on F18; Radio on F19

Version 2 has Radio on F8.

My manual pages 234 - 236 apply.

Good luck!

Now that's interesting I have exactly the same issue listening to 5 Live - 909 am. I don't normally switch off the radio just use the ignition switch. Some days the volume is ok other days it appears muted. Normally resolved by selecting an FM station and switching back.

If two of us have this problem are there any others?

I can't speak for the Bolero, but my Columbus has a start up volume setting in the tone/volume settings area.

I want it to start up with no volume, but it always starts up with a little, even though it is on minimum. At least it is consistent, which is what you both are saying the Bolero isn't.

Just a thought - the volume dims when reverse is selected, and takes a pause to restore to normal after disengaging reverse. Is it possible, when you reverse into a parked position, but switch off before disengaging reverse gear, that the radio is holding the muted setting? I'll have a play today and see......

My Colunmbus wouldn't come on yesterday. You could hear what sounded like the hard disc running, but nothing else. Only sign of life was the direction of travel indicator in the maxidot display. Stopped for a few minutes and restarted and everything back to normal.

I think all these problems mentioned are symptomatic of much modern electronic equipment, which now and then simply has a hissy fit, remedied more often than not - as several have pointed out, and as works for my laptop, mobile phone, etc. - by simply switching off, counting to 10 and starting up again. I used to have a problem with the maxidot display in my Golf 4Motion disappearing after a day out in hot sunshine: but it was always OK again the next day after switching off, a night cooling off in the garage, and switching on again.

The clock in my Octavia's maxidot was showing the wrong time yesterday. Nothing has been touched since I last used the car, so not sure what is going on there!

Kitten, myself & Ivor would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved with their kind thoughts and wishes along with the advice and recommendations.

Ivor is now fighting fit and functioning 100% after I replaced the radio fuse. All I need to do now is cancel our appointments with the dealer.

What a relief he just had hiccups emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif

Bolero has a 'start up volume setting' too.

I checked this yesterday and found that I had it set to quite low, only 1 - 2 notches up, whereas to listen to 5Live successfully the volume needs to be about the mid point.

I've reset the 'start up volume' to a higher level and will see how this goes.

This though is perhaps not of any help to Ivor's problems; sorry.

my bolero sometimes does stupid stuff.

mainly focused on the volume on turning the ignition key.

most times it is fine but every so often it is VERY LOUD and has to be turned down quick. :o
