Poor Trade in Value

Featured Replies

Went to get a P/X price on a new Fabia Monte Carlo 1.6 diesel and the dealer only offered us £8,600 on our 12 month old 2010 (59plate) Fabia Sport Tdi with only 7,000 miles which is very poor .

We took delivery on the 20th of January last year and paid for extra's like Cruise Control , Climate Control , Steering mounted Audio controls , 3rd rear Headrest .

TBH the trade in price we have been offered for our 1 year old Fabia is CRAP

comments please

that will be due to the tax free deals

Why do you want to change so soon?

Sounds like you have a perfectly decent Fabia, that you have added extras on. Did you honestly see yourself wanting to part ex after 12 months or so? What's the appeal of the new car?

True - give with one hand, take with the other. As the saying goes, "money doesn't grow on trees".

Extras add nothing to the second hand value of the car, all they do is make it easier for the dealer to sell later.

Most cars depreciate heavily in the first 12 months, then tend to level off. The best time to sell is somewhere around 2years, when the value of the car will not be that much less than what you have already been offered.

The VAT free offer was, I believe running this time last year so the OP I guess got to take advantage of it.

I was always lead to believe the depriciation hit was worst in the first year of a car and leveled out as a car got older so by trading in so early in the cars life you'll be seeing the steepest level of depreciation.

Also what is the Monte Carlo giving you over your current Sport Tdi?

I agree with Mannyo and yourself re: depreciation.

This is my point too - what is the "monte carlo" offering above what the "sport" has with those added extras?

As far as I can work out its all show and no extra performance changes though unless I've missed something? It may just be me but I'm still not seeing what your going to gain out of changing though.

TBH were not gaining anything except that SWMBO really like's the Red Monte Carlo and I have to admit it's a tad better looking than our Sport , if I had my way I would buy a VRS but my better half WONT entertain a DSG gearbox under any circumstances :'( :'( :'(

Thought for a minute it might have been a dealer knock-up of a base model with a few added graphics and go faster stripes! :)

Which is exactly what it is :'(

If you can get her to test drive it and ignore the paddles just drive it like an auto. As it’s a very Jekyll and Hyde car in drive and light throttle very placid and fine for the commute but get out into the open and go for sport or paddle shift and its hello points and bye bye licence performance car. I know some people don't think it is as it doesn't have surging power band it’s just quick.

So get the existing car wrapped then.

Have any colour you like, it'll cost about a grand and will keep the original paintwork in fantastic condition.

And save you a fortune!

Dear Stephen,

You really should hang on - the car will lose a fraction of this amount each year after the first year. I don't think Skoda dealers can offer enough while the VAT offer is on so, if you are desperate to change, you need to sell privately. However, I was offered a figure similar to webuyanycar.com (trade figure really - quote online) back in September, but when I take delivery next month, the dealer figure figure will look rather better than it did back then - what is the delivery time now?

The model you like looks rather like the Sport model offered in other markets - ie the same basic seats as your car but with darkened lights and nice new wheels. If the main thing is the wheels, they are available from Skoda dealers as an aftermarket purchase. I have seen a few cars with them (in pics) and they look great.

Why not treat yourself and save a packet on the new car - you can always put the wheels on the new car when you buy in a year or two.

PS reports indicate that the new diesel won't realy give you much difference in performance or economy but is a tad quieter.

Best wishes,

Andy.

It would 100% make sense to not sell until after this VAT free deal has been done and dusted
