Best Colour for Elegance hatch?

Featured Replies

Well, if it is causing trouble, it is taking an awful long time to show up.

If you're happy with that cleaning process and with the quality of the finish on your paintwork then

But I certainly wouldn't be recommending it to others!

Corrida Red is the only option. All the dull greys, white, black are for bank managers :giggle:

OH go on then - I did see a brand new shiney Anthracite grey Elegance in the car park at work yesterday - looked rather nice I must admit.

Looks canny, got the 1.8Tsi in red with standard 16" wheels. Debating whether to get 17" or 18" alloys this spring and put some winter tyres on the 16"ers...decisions decisions!!

Everyone's got their opinion, I'm no different. But I'm happy with silver, prefer it to my last vRS which was Race Blue.

Corrida red makes Skodas look good.

As lease car choices I got quotes on a Superb 1.6 S twindoor in Rosso Brunello (plus full heated seats, cruise control and rear parking sensors) and an Octavia Elegance Estate 1.6 in Corrida Red (with ivory interior, tunnel lights, heated front seats and wood trim)- would have specced the Superb in Red and ivory if it had been available in S spec. Although the Octavia was a more cost effective option (lease cost+BIK tax+fuel consumption) the Superb one out on space and refinement.

My preferences for Octavia would be

1. Red with ivory interior ( and wood trim)

2. Cappacino with onyx interior

3. Rosso Brunello with ivory interior

Get it under some halogen or florescent lights, bet its covered in swirl marks! You might think that the finish is ok but believe me a good machine polish, sealant and wax and it will look a whole new car...

Ok, I'll have a really close look tomorrow. Maybe I can bet rid of any swirls with a bit of sandpaper! :-)

Would someone please give him his tablets... emoticon-0124-worried.gif

I forgot, I've got Storm Blue and it's lovely, however I think I'll have a VRs next time and it'll be either Silver or Red or Anthracite or Blue or Black...

How do you remove tar-steel wool? :p

Don't be daft. I coat the tar with acetone and then use a blow lamp on it.

Colour is of course very much down to personal preference.

Silver is often overlooked due to its popularity back in the 90's and the misconception that every other car is silver.

Since then anthracites, greys and gunmetal is flavor of the month.

As previously mentioned I think specification also plays a big part in colour choice as things like colour coded bumpers, mirrors, rubbing strips, roof rails, window tints, wheel size etc. all influence how a car looks.

Silver in S with its black mirrors is not good, however in SE with its colour coded mirrors it looks better. Add the front fogs on the Elegance and it looks better still.

However, add the 18" alloys and boot spoiler on the vRS and I reckon it's the ultimate choice!

My Scout is black by the way :giggle:

You may joke but once swmbo suggested I use a pan scourer to get flies off the front of my White Xantia. She pointed to the pack assuring me that they were "none scratch" pan scourers. I don't think she got the message even when I suggested that, as they were "non scratch", she could use them to wash her face!

So, this morning I studied my paintwork in daylight, sunlight, fluorescent light, torchlight, candlelight and bakelite. I just cannot see any swirls, with or without my glasses on (shoulda gone to Specsavers). So if that's the degree of "appearance spoiling" that shows up due to my method of washing the car, I guess I can live with it.

Seriously, since I bought it (new) I have often wondered if has had one of these magic treatment coatings, without me knowing at the time of purchase. It is really quite weird, the way it cleans up.
