Multi-Function Steering Wheel

Featured Replies

Can someone tell me what the '4 Spoke Multi-Function steering wheel for radio including Maxi-dot' option for the Elegance spec involves? Is it just basic +/- volume and up/down stations?

I don't really use the steering wheel controls on my current car, but is there any must have functionality here I will miss out on?

Thanks in advance

What the buttons do depends on the spec you have. There is the volume +/- and track or radio station moving on the right. On the left you ahve the search buttons along with the illumination and mute buttons. They are useful buttons, I use them more than the buttons on the radio itself.

on ours (2010) the left hand section is up down stations/tracks, and volume. The right hand buttons let you switch between operating the maxidot trip computer, the audio (with station/track names appearing in the maxidot window) and going through the menus on the maxidot.

On the left you have volume up/down control plus changing radio stations/CD music/Sd card/ others. Plus if you keep pressed the changing button it will speed fast/reverse the song at higher speed.

The right control changes the maxidot and its options, mobile contacts and other small things.

It will also activate the " voice" por the mobile phone. Mine seems " blond" no ofense to anyone ment :D

I have radio controls on my renault and find very helpful.

The only thing missing is a direct MUTE button like the Renault

You have it! If you have the FL with the scroll wheel for up/down volume! Press the scroll wheel (short press and release) mutes the sound, press again brings it back. Give it a long press and it turns the Bolero on and off.

I discovered something just yesterday! I had the maxidot set on "Audio". If you use the right hand scroll wheel it scrolls you through the radio stations but not just the 6 on the Bolero screen - it give a full list of all the named stations in the Bolero staion list so you can run up and down to select.

To answer OP here is a summary of the functions.:

Left hand side - scroll wheel and 2 buttons:

scroll wheel - up and down volume, short press to mute, long press to switch on/off

buttons - radio - switch station; media - next/previous track

right hand side - scroll wheel and 2 buttons

scroll wheel - move through options in maxidot , short press select option or switch between computer 1&2, long press reset computer. See above re what it does in audio mode.

button 1 - switch between radio and media

button 2 - enter maxidot menus

NB there are no maxidot controls on the right hand stalk if you have the mfsw - all on the wheel.

Edit: just seen photos above! This wheel is slightly different to mine - I have Elegance, 4 spoke with no phone. The phone button above switches between radio and media on mine.

Is the size of the airbag unit the same for the four and three spoke steering wheel??????????

I already have a four spoke wheel and want to change it to the 3 spoke one(as on VRS) ....and seems worth it only if I dont need to replace the airbag !

Can someone confirm this please !

Thanks

Don't recall where I got this from, but I'm seen/heard somewhere that you can't interchange the three and four spoke wheels. But I'm no expert - not really even an amature - so happy to be corrected.

Well for my sakes ....I hope you are wrong .!!

These are pre -fl ones ...

FL ones are different ..

Just got my pre FL MFSW today.

Does the button on the left which shows a wheel with a bulb just turn on the button illumination?

Also, I assumed it would control maxidot features, but all the buttons just look like they're for audio?

Yes the button on the wheel just turns the illumination on and off.

Only on the FL does the wheel buttons cantrol the maxidaot. On the preFL the buttons control the radio and the buttons on the wiper stalk cantrol the maxidot.

Awk crap, that's disappointing!

If you got the oem BT car kit you can have the button for turning off the illumination on the MFSW mapped to activate the voice dial feature ....

I have a Yeti with a 4 spoke MFSW and changed it for a 3 spoke MFSW vRS flappy paddle MFSW. The airbag and cover were a straight swap. all plug and play. 30 mins or less to do the complete job.

Sorry I can't help. I used Ben at Shark Performance. I don't have VCDS. Check the VCDS & Diagnostics forum area for somebody near you.

Just realised you have a manual....do you have a 4 spoke MFSW at the moment? If so I don't think it will need coding, only if you had an ordinary non MFSW will it need coding.

Octavia II FL 1.8 Tsi Ambient 6-speed manual

previously had - 1K0 953 549 CP

now - 1K0 953 549 CD

I don't suppose you tried the wheel with the original module first?

I don't suppose you tried the wheel with the original module first?

original module is a midline ----(only cruise control and board computer)

new module is a highline --------(cruise control+board computer+ mfsw)

so it didnt make any sense in trying !

Lol, I'm currently upgrading to a MFSW too and was just hoping I wouldn't need to change the module too!

Is there a way to check which type (midline/highline) is 5K0 953 521 BL? Did not find any info for controllers, starting with 5K0...
