Diesel torque OR Petrol power

Featured Replies

As title says, which is best?

No long drawn out bore your ass of debates about cost etc

Just an old fashioned which is faster argume..... Sorry debate!

So which is fastest Octy vRS petrol or Octy vRS diesel.

I like em both, but I can't decide

Petrol or Diesel....?........FIGHT!!

Also all fabia vRS talk is banned( see below for reason!! )

Petrol, unless you get a fabia vrs, which as everyone knows is the fastest car in the world!!!!!!

Petrol Power I reckon! How many diesel F1 cars to you see?

Apart from the Audi V10 race car that is lol

diesel because of the torque

power = sell cars

torque = wins races

I think Diesel, it's good to torque............. I'll get my coat and close door behind me!

Got to be petrol then!!!!!! Turbo petrol more power and similar torque while also being able to rev

Wins races on tracks.... We don't want to upset anyone, do we!!

The Le Mans has been won for the past five years in a diesel car - nuff said.

But only because the rules were tipped in the favour of them, as of next year they have leveled the playing field so they won't stand a chance, so i'm told, same as the touring cars dervs were winning then they announced that as of 2011 the petrols will be allowed a turbo which made the tdi uncompetative, when the terms are even petrol walks away the winner everytime

How can you compare 2 different things?

And then you ask a different question, which is fastest?

Sorry but make up your mind what you want to ask and then you will get a sensible answer.

Bit of fun, that's all

OK

neither

warp power wins every time!!

lol.

Tis ture about the diesel race car though. If the diesel wasn't allowed a turbo, like the petrol cars, the diesel wouldn't stand a chance.

Likewise, if they allowed turbos on petrol cars..

diesel wins for lazy, economic motorway cruising. petrol for everything else

i posted this in a previous thread to one of the diesel fanboy comments talking of how much torque their car makes for about 100rpm before the power band ends :giggle:

You say diesel is where it is at! Lets look at flag ship models for all the hot hatches market. Which lets be fair they know what they are talking about

Ford

Focus ST

Fiesta ST

Renault

Clio RS

Meganne RS

Vauxhall

Astra VXR

Corsa VXR

Skoda

Octavia vRS

Skoda fabia vRS

Seat

Ibiza cupra

Leon cupra

Leon FR TFSI

VW

Golf GTI

Golf R32

Polo GTI

notice the trend yet. A distinct lack of diesels. looks like all the manufacturers are wrong,

Petrol VRS almost has the torque of the diesel and revs on to 7k. No contest.

If you have 2 similar cars only difference is petrol and diesel engine, then petrol is always faster. Petrols use the full rev range so can change gear later and less, diesel is always no power, loads of power, no power, change gear! Although I do drive a diesel now a days as cheaper to run and for real world driving there better for mid range stuff, but flat out acceleartion and top speed petrol is always faster!

Best of both worlds for the Stig Clan, Ferbi Mk2 vRS for petrol fueled fun and a Mk2 Octavia vRS CR TDi for economy and load lugging, either way, yeeeeeehaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!

Having owned an M3 and currently a 3.0i Z4 alongside a Remapped Fabia VRS...

I would say.......................................Petrol. Which is why i am passing up on a 335D and going for a 911 C4S. There is a reason why Porsche refused to make diesels for so long...

The TFSi engine in the Octy vRS petrol is almost as torquey as the diesel counterpart, but pulls strongly to much higher rpm's (as mentioned above). There would be no contest. Diesel has it's place, for people who want economy and useful flexibility, but gone are the days when all petrol cars were either large capacity lazy engines or screaming naturally aspirated engines with no bottom end torque. Turbos have revolutionised petrol engines as well as diesel engines . . . and petrols were already ahead before that took place really.

This is made without bias - I have a diesel car and like it for what it does, but if I could get the economy from a turbo petrol, I'd have one.

Well put.

My 1.8 TSI DSG is just about doing this. Quicker accelerating than the diesel VRS but manages mid 40s mpg, over 50 mpg on a gentle run. Much cheaper to buy, quieter.

Torque plateau starts at 1500 rpm to 4500 rpm, power plateau 4500 to 6200, revs (sings) to 7000 rpm!
