ordered my new superb estate

Featured Replies

Hi All,

After about a years research I finally ordered a 1.8TSI DSG Elegance Estate with most of the toys. My problem was that my existing motor is a auto BMW 525i Tourer on a 02 plate with 135k on the clock. Its the best car I have ever owned and still drives very well, with performance and reasonble economy of 29MPG. It also well specified, with electric tailgate, heated leather front seats ect. My last 4 cars have been Mercs or BMW as they all did high mileage for my work. I looked at a replacement 5 series, Eclass and the A6 but the cost were excessive. I drove the Superb TSI and can honestly say it matched my existing cars performance with the added bonus of hopefully improved consumption. Skoda's VAT free offer swung it for me as the car comes in at not far off half the price of a well specified 5 series. I expect to get a bit of flak from friends for choosing a Skoda over the premium brands.

My local Skoda dealers would not negotiate on price so I went to James at Allems who did me a good deal. Although Epsom is over a 100 miles away the saving obtained makes it well worth while. The P/X on the BMW was not attractive so I will sell this privately, likely April sometime if anyone is interested. I live near Bournemouth. What a great forum this is, really helped me in specifying the Superb.

As you know from test drives etc the Superb compares very well with Merc, Audi and BMW. Ok the leather, carpets and some of the plastics are not up to scratch with the others, but for £10-15k less than equivalents they are not that bad.

For the past ten years we've had Range Rovers, but I wanted to change to a more economical estate. So for me the Superb's rear space and boot space gave it the edge over the 5 series and Audi estates and the price difference over the E-class.

Now I've had it just over a month, I've no regrets with my choice. So I'm sure your friends will see your reasons for choosing it after their first drive in it.

Cheers

Steve

Hi

I travelled an hour from Harrow to get a great deal from James last week for my new Skoda, a black V6 :p .

Could have got a little more for PX if sold privately but don't fancy the hassle, life is too short to waste my time with tyre kickers, people who arrange to see car, then don't turn up and the worry of phoney money or bounced cheques.

Did James give you an idea on delivery time?

Hi V6,

James originally said 3 months but seem to change that to early April. Either way he said he would let me know a firm date in a couple of months.

Similar story from me. 5 years/150k miles in BMW 353TDI estate - can't afford the car, the gas or the benefits tax any maore so last Saturday took delivery of Superb Elegance 2.0TDI (and all the odd letters) diesel and waved goodbye to 25 years of wedded bliss with the various teutons. So far - 103 miles - it's brilliant and I can (just) afford it. Columbu SatNav feels complicated right now but that'll sort itself out over time.

Lousy trade in though on the 535 - but who wants a high mileage guzzler with a long list of expensive ailments?

Seems like its not only VW that have to worry about sales loss of the Superb size car to Skoda, looks like Mercedes & BMW premium prices are driving ( pardon the pun) customers away.
