Snow Foaming

Featured Replies

The foam is a carrier for the chemical detergent. It will penetrate faster on a wet surface as the detergent can migrate from the foam more easily.

Cleaning really isn't rocket science, but people posting nonsense doesn't help. You may think your car never gets that dirty, but anything you can remove before applying chemical is something the chemical doesn't have to work away at.

If we had the luxury of the old 'thanks' button then I would have thanked you here........

Depends on who replied.............. :giggle:

Wasn't it you???? :giggle:

I'm still of the opinion as others have said, what ever works best for the individual.

I go against what most may recommend on DW, in that I rinse first and then apply Snow Foam but for me I only use it when doing a detail, not when cleaning my own motor, worth reading post No.42 in the link below for my reasoning:

http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/187824-detailing-shopping-list/page__st__40

My mention of depending on who replies on DW was stated as some that post on there and also in here give out some false information but then that is what forums are all about.............. :S

I can confirm this, when I saw the Baker-mobile I was quite disappointed in it's general hygiene.............bet I don't get a thanks for that! :p

Er nope........

Of course that is the best attitude, forums will discuss opinions over many things but if we all did the same thing the world would be a little boring.......

As before, if there way a thanks button and all that........

PS. When did you see the Superb......... :S

Obviously a bit of difference of opinion on the process to follow

But it's all good - there's various ways of skinning a cat after all; doesn't mean one way is better than another ;)

As said by others, I'd try a number of different approaches and see which one works best for you.

Steve

vwdan1986 may have sourced his elsewhere but here is a good link Steve:

Thanks Baker. Would be good to see a few options, as I'm not that keen on using Autobrite again. My snow foam lance came from them and broke after not that many uses. They did eventually replace it, but it's put me off them a bit... :(

Cheers,

Steve

My lance came from there and has been fine to be fair, well it's been used 30 ish times in the past 8 months, so I dont think thats bad. Hmm have I tempted fate now? :S

I got their foam too, but fancy trying something else next time around. Anyone got any recommendations?

I was probably just unlucky... emoticon-0114-dull.gif

I'm using CYC's at the moment and does the job well: http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/washing-and-drying/super-snow-foam-5-litre/prod_370.html

Also used Elite's foam in the past too: http://www.elitecarcare.co.uk/elite-snow-foam-5-litre.php

But tempted to go for Bilt Hamber's one next time, based on reviews and also the performance of other stuff of theirs I use

http://www.elitecarcare.co.uk/bilt-hamber-autofoam.php

The Valet Pro stuff is supposed to be decent too: http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/washing-and-drying/valet-pro-ph-neutral-snow-foam/prod_500.html

Either way, plenty of choice :D

Valet pro is the best Ive used....Its very concentrated, so can be more diluted

and I use it without a presoak...its not nonsense..It works for me everytime :moon:

As Wardy rightly says..Its what works for you.

I will ALWAYS presoak before applying Snow Foam

I've not tried many but I find Elites one to be excellent.

I tried Bilt Hamber based ont he same sort of reviews you've seen Wardy and found it pretty useless :wonder:

It was so ineffective I almost gave up with the whole snow foam thing but I decided to go back to Elite for one more try and I'm glad I did!

Knew I didn't recognise the username, you cheat......... :D

Will give Valet Pro a go when I next need some; what concentration do you use Chris?

Cheers for that. Yeah, always found the Elite one to be fine. But good to try new things

About an inch Steve and the dial turned fully to -

Oky doke, then the bottle filled with water?

I have experimented with different combos and did try putting some shampoo in as well, but must say that just a straight snowfoam/water combo yielded the best result.

Warm water

Warm water

What about it? :)

Was far too lazy to write a whole paragraph. :)

I use the Bilt Hamber with an Autobrite lance Steve and whilst it work OKs it deosn't dwell for very long... So I usually rinse, foam, rinse, foam and then two bucket with the second lot of foam then finish off with a silicon blade and micorfibre towel (my cars don't get washed very often though so are usually pretty manky to start with... :'( )

Forgot to say - the Bilt Hamber is the only one I've found that's biodegradable ...

Thanks Mark. I'm edging towards the Valet Pro one in that case, when I next need some.

On your method - I'd be ultra careful using a blade on the paintwork. Not generally advised for use really, apart from the glass maybe - due to the chance of there being a slight bit of grit or debris left on the paint :o

Cheers Steve - I'm usually really careful with the blade and jetwash it down before I start but your right. I've probably been lucky so far not to get any major scratches but it'll happen sooner or later... I just figure life is too short and I'm usually limited by time with two small kids and three cars to wash... :dull:

Have you seen the new Maxifoam from Autobrite? Nice test of the stuff done by the Autobrite team in Stoke On Trent. I'm getting an Autobrite Lance and some Magifoam tomorrow and I'll post up some results and maybe a few shots. But I need to find some really dirty lanes to drive up first.

Rich

I've just placed and order for some Magifoam too, looks the biz
