Octavia L&K Est 04 Headlight problem

Featured Replies

I have a problem with my L&K 04 Estate the headlights are both too low on the road, I can hear the motors try and adjust the height and I can see a little movement when facing a wall but they do not come up to the correct height nothing has been touched on the lights so I wonder what has gone wrong?? any help would be appreciated. The problem has only just started over the last two days..

Thanks

when was the last mot test?- the headlamp alignment will be part of the test.. personaly i set mine to the correct level and then leave the automatic adjuster well alone.. other wise when an adjuster motor fails you can have one high one low etc.. y7ou can adjust the headlamp alignment with the two adjuster screw on each headlamp, 1 adjusts left-right the other up-down.. although withough the proper alignment gauge it can be difficult to judge.. most mot station charge about a tenner to adjust the aims..

What about cleaning the motor and parts involved in the adjustment movement?, maybe some dirt is on the way? I doubt both motors would fail at the same time

Was L&K fitted standard lights or xenons?

If they are xenons there will be an automatic adjuster for load height on rear suspension?

From what I've read in the past the self levelling xenons need to be adjusted using VAGCOM. If you adjust with the screw it only makes a difference until you next start the car and they re-level using the sensors.

Mine seem to fail every other year on the nearside light. Yet I have never taken the unit out. I almost wonder if the chap aligns my car at a dodgy angle. Chap fixes it during the test and then I get both a fail and a pass certificate in one go at the end. Don't get charged for the adjustment fix though.

I've noticed that mine don't move together when I move the control wheel. The drivers side waits until the passenger side is about halfway down then moves, but strangely going back up they move together.

when I adjust mine (or not?) with the control wheel, I see no difference and hear nothing....

How loud is the motor noise, should I be able to hear it from the drivers seat with the door open (stationary obviously....)?

<meanwhile, back at the point> Regardless of whether you have Xenons or halogens, it sounds to me like the connections between the level motors and the headlight shells have failed.

Thanks for the replys the fault is now resolved...it was broken arm which controls the lights motors, this has been repaired but how long it last the mechanic did not know, he says a new arm cost £120.00 anyone know what the arm is?...

At a guess it sounds like the link between the axle and sensor. No load on the sensor so it thinks the car is low on the back, so it goes to the lowest setting

I'd agree. I can't really advise further without seeing a picture of the relevant area.
