Considering 19" wheels

Featured Replies

i am going to buy a new set of alloys for my vrs.

should i get 19" or stick with 18s

i am led to believe that 19s may be a bit " crashy "

does anyone have experience of both.

Speak to Ben at Shark Performance. He ran his on 19s and it didnt feel crashy to me when I was in it. However for best handlng I'd stick with the 18s.

I can't remember which magazine it was (evo maybe?) but I recall a test on a mk5 GTI where they ran the car on the std 17" and optional 18" on a track in a proper side-by-side test.

The car was faster on 17"s.

The car does look great with 19"s though - several have been posted on here - and if you chose something that was lighter than the OE wheel then it may actually ride/handle better?

I guess the 17s would be lighter so respond quicker? 19s look the business though lets face it.

bump

What are you bumping for? Just get the 19s. It'll be fine.

one of the advantages of this forum is to get advise from owners who have experience of your problem.

i am thinking of spending over £1500 on new wheels and tyres.

i would like to hear from people who have already done this and can help me with the decision.

i dont think " just get the 19s. it"ll be fine " qualifies as good advise.

and this is from an administrator ?????

I like your five question marks as a cunning way of conveying how incensed and disappointed you are.

you seemed to have moved on to sarcasm from apathy.

you really need to find something better to do with your time.

Sorry to get involved in this, but much as you personally may not find Nick's response to your liking, to actually suggest he finds 'something better to do with his time' really shows your naivety on the site

Nick has put one hell of a lot of effort into making the site what it is today, so you really are way off the mark :dull: :dull:

Changing to 19 inch wheels is one of the things that Insurance companies should be told about and they may raise your premium. If you do not tell them and have a bump they can refuse to pay out. 19 inch wheels are not currently an option on Octavias, although an option on other golf platform based cars. 18s on the VRS seem fine and 19s little advange IMHO a part from looking meaner. More costly to replace about 10% or so plus not always the widths you want to keep the clearances etc.

i have 19s on mine octavia and no problems with them, i am also running coilovers. so if you want the look go for it, but if you want speed don't. less responsive and not as good in wet conditions and pants on the white stuff

pics?

I've been running 19" for two years...not one problem.

I think the new CUPRA R wheels are stunning.

I'd love a set of those. They are 19' and I'm guessing would go straight onto an Octavia.

Harrys wheels are great and fancy scuttling underneath to see his fancy exhausts! , though I cant help feeling you should have thought about new wheels before you painted the others, ( you would get more on ebay ) or are you going to put winter tyres on them for spares ?

Cheers guys. All welcome to have a good look around the car on the 20th March if you like. I'll also take you out for a spin if you fancy that aswell

you guessed right alan.

the black ones are going to be for winter use.

been thinking about 19's for show/summer use but like yourself unsure about it all before you make what is a big outlay. Those with 19's what size rubber are you running them on? (profile of 30 or 35?)

Jeff (Badger Driver) and Harry - have just added you both to my MSN - wouldn't mind a 2-minute chat with either/both of you when you have time regarding 19's on an Octavia!
