Skoda's failings

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm looking forward to buy a Yeti, and as I had decided last year, with your advice, I am waiting for the automatic version to arrive at Indian shores.

Currently Skoda sells the Yeti with the 2.0 Diesel with the 6-speed manual gearbox. And curiously with no Bluetooth with touchscreen system, and with very limited color options.

It's been about 5 months since the Yeti was launched, and yet Skoda has still not yet offered a petrol[1.8 TSi] engine or a DSG option. In India, Yeti is currently placed in the premium soft-roader segment, alongside the overpriced BMW X1 and the Honda CR-V. Both offer petrol with automatics, and they've been selling like hot cakes. But Skoda seems to have turned a blind eye to this.

Also, the after sales service is possibly the worst ever available. Skoda has been in India since 2002[i think], and every single customer has been complaining about the after sales service, but Skoda hasn't done anything.

I've got a feeling that this scenario is confined to India.

Is it only me or has Skoda cocked this one up?

So really your complaint is about Skoda INDIA, so why not put that in the title?

Have you written a letter of complaint to VAG, the parent company?

Thanks for the posting sapm5 its good to think of the Yeti trundling around India's roads.

Sorry to hear the the options are less over there on engine choice.

Certainly voice you opinions to VAG as suggested on the lack of choice.

Here in the UK I quite fancied the 170bhp diesel but not available in SE form unless I paid an extra £2,500 for the Elegance Model most of which went on the leather seats. I don't like leather much preferring cloth.

So I shall be writing a whining letter to VAG as well.

Its only if people complain that anything gets done.

Have to say though the 140bhp engine is rather well suited to the Yeti.

Cheers

I am thinking along the same lines as Graham. No comany is perfect - we will always have room to demand more. But here in the UK, and - I guess, for most of Europe - Skoda service is better than a lot of compasnies we have dealt with. Your comment suggests that in India this is not the case - in which case you need to let Skoda know, as Graham says. LET THEM KNOW! How will they change if enough folk don't tell 'em?

Maybe Skoda are throttling back on the number of models in relatively new markets to satisfy the massive demands from the established European market.

There is no point offering something that cannot be supplied, Skoda UK have enough problems like that here in the UK. Adding more models thus increasing sales will put even more pressure on Skoda's already overstretched production facilities.

As a general rule, not every combination of X and Y will be offered as this too puts extra demand on production. There might be more available model/engine/option combinations available when (or should that be if) Skoda catch up with demand.

Believe there's a 1.8TSI DSG being launched in May this year but in which market I'm not sure. Don't think it's coming here to the UK as the 1.8TSI linked to the DSG box is the lower output 152bhp CDAB version.

Apologies for the incorrect title. :(

Although the diesel is much better suited to the Yeti, I don't use the car that heavily, and I'm used to driving petrol cars. Also as we've got lots of stop-start traffic, the throttle sensitivity isn't perfect and does get tiring.

We've [My city] also got the worst roads ever. Basically the road contractor laid a layer of stones, and painted them grey, so they Yeti is perfect for these conditions, unlike the X1 or the CR-V, because the road is constantly in need of repair.

Now, every single European car manufacturer, is in the process of setting up factories, dealerships to cash on in the titanic demand of the Asian markets. Renault, and Peugeot are moving swiftly, while BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi are tripping over themselves to get every single model on sale in India. VW is also expanding rapidly. Every second car on the road is an E-class Benz, A6, or a 5-series.

Skoda did launch the Superb with every single engine and transmission choice, but is being choosy for the Yeti, which I feel is built for the pathetic roads, unlike the Superb which has to crawl over the potholes. The Yeti and Superb are priced at par[The Elegance trim] so many will plump for the Superb which offers more "stuff" for your money.

It's not like there isn't any demand for niche luxury cars. The demand is actually very high. Even Rolls Royce credited 50% of it's Asian sales to India!

Don't apologise for the "incorrect" title Sapm5 just give your topic whatever title you like. (Although be careful about criticising Skoda and the Yeti on here) lol

Hello sapm5

Which city are you in? I am in New Delhi.

Just got myself a Yeti 140 diesel manual elegance on 18th Jan. Hit a deep pit in the road on the 23rd. "Check engine" warning lights came on. Finally diagnosed (with Skoda India intervention and response to my phone calls) by the dealer as a fault in the intercooler (charge air cooler). Still waiting for the new intercooler to arrive from the plant (will perhaps be here by Monday). Again, I had to call Skoda India as well as write them an email (to which, fortunately, I did get a response).

Hopefully car will be back on the road by next week.

Love the vehicle. Love the diesel engine. I think diesels are well suited to SUVs and also to the Yeti in particular.

Do miss the availability of a DSG though. (My other car, a Honda Civic, is an automatic.)

Well, even though I have had to wait for a new intercooler, I don't think I can term my experience as all bad. Skoda India did respond to my calls and emails.

I guess parts availability will be smoother over time, as more vehicles become available...

So really your complaint is about Skoda INDIA, so why not put that in the title?

Have you written a letter of complaint to VAG, the parent company?

Sounds a bit uncharacteristically harsh? i wonder if we'd all think to add 'UK' if posting on an Indian hosted site? No doubt in India, the distinguishing feature of Skoda India is 'Skoda', just as most Britons see Skoda UK as Skoda

Hi All,

I am also a happy Yeti owner from India - Gurgaon. Got my Black Yeti Ambiente on Dec 12, 2010. So far driven around 2700 Kms and am loving it. Incidentally, we also have a Civic Auto and a Yeti and both me and my wife are staunch supporters of the Yeti over the Civic, though both have very different driving characteristics! The best part is the road visibility and mileage (I am getting around 15.5 kmpl average ). The power too is much better than the Civic - we have raced both cars together and the Yeti pulls much faster than the Civic AT - unless of course you drive the Cicic in total flat out mode at 6000 rpm). In spite of all the service stories in India on Skoda, the car is still very well built and well designed. I would give the overall car a 9/10.

Additionally, the DSG in India is also expected soon - most likely April 2011. They will be launch 3 more models - 1.8 TSI 2WD (price around 12.5 Lacs) 1.6 TDI (14 Lacs) and 2.0 TDI with DSG (L&K spec)
